The old immigration policy that required a sponsor was designed to make sure the immigrant did not qualify for any government welfare type programs. When did that change? I understand that political asylum immigrants (thinking Vietnamese who helped us during the war, for example), but not the millions who arrived uninvited.

The Red Cross provides a babysitting course for ages 11-15. I wish I could remember the old work law age for babysitting and newspaper delivery as the ages for that was younger than for other part time jobs.

She is a caseworker for the elderly.

The mother is white, so it is a probability that the kids are white also. The story isn't about her - seems like she, while a single mother, has a job.

The alternative is for her to be on welfare and be home. The paid for babysitter arrangement allows her to work and be a productive member of society.

A quick search shows Nancy’s late brother commented on the Mangione family (not critical). His cousin, Nino Mangione is one of the most conservative Republicans in the Maryland House of Delegates. I can’t find any connection between their family and the D’Alessandro family. They did live in the same part of Baltimore (Little Italy).

I've shopped Temu several times, always using PayPal for payment. I shop only on the website, will not install a phone app for them (that is what the warnings were about since they used too many permissions from your phone). Yes, same merchandise that you could find on Amazon (maybe) but many things that are small but no longer easily available here.) The quality of things has not been a disappointment. They did ship free with a $20 minimum order and in a timely manner. Never had a problem.

I do understand the slave labor problem with communist China but there are many things that are probably included in that category that are sold here in normal retail stores that also fit that description at a higher price.

I think that is one of the biggest problems - people don't see it as being as dangerous as it is. 1-3/1,000 is terrible odds to not be concerned. That is the death rate from measles complications today.

I remember having the measles at 6 years of age - yes, the dark room, no television watching, high fever, mandatory 2 weeks quarantine from school. I was thrilled that with a simple vaccine my children would not have to be subjected to that disease (mumps too).
