A new report suggests a “sophisticated” Russian propaganda campaign helped flood social media with fake news stories leading up to the presidential election. The Washington Post, citing a yet-to-be published report from independent researchers, said the goal was to punish Hillary Clinton, help Donald Trump, and undermine faith in American democracy. The report comes from a nonpartisan group of researchers called PropOrNot. The group describes itself as “concerned American citizens” with expertise in computer science, national security and public policy. The researchers say they traced the origins of posts and mapped the connections among accounts that delivered similar messages. …

Russia is preparing to upgrade the out of service Soviet-era T-80 battle tanks to beef up its armed forces. Up to 3,000 of the decommissioned war machines will be given an up-to-date overhaul and rolled out across the Putin's military. This new cohort of armoured vehicles dwarfs alone Britain's arsenal of tanks six-fold. Russia already has 15,000 tanks in service - the most in the world - while Britain has just over 400. The "overhaul and modernisation" of the vehicles will begin next year as Putin continues to boost the military of his resurgent Russia. Around 550 T-80s are still...

Be afraid, fellow liberals! Be very afraid! If you can define something by giving an example, this story from the Washington Post just might serve as your quintessential definition-by-example of irony. In an attempt to convince everyone that “fake news” and the Russians somehow rigged the election in favor of Donald Trump, the Post has served up a story so absurd and unintentionally hilarious, it’s almost as if they wrote their own fake news to help us recognize the genre. It’s true. The venerable voice of the establishment actually published this (bolded passages by me):

Dmitry Kiselyov then deleted the offending word "jungle" because, he said, he did not want to "compare Obama to a monkey". The offensive remark came as the TV pundit and media boss told Russian viewers about the first meeting between President Obama and President-elect Donald Trump at the White House. Mr Kiselyov said: "Obama is cheeky these days, if not unceremonious. It started last week, when Trump paid his first visit to the White House.... There, Trump behaved like an English lord, while Obama was throwing his arms about as if he was in the jungle." This is how his...
  • Russia responds to NATO advance with missiles in its Europe enclave

Russia will deploy two advanced missile systems to its far-west territory of Kaliningrad in a direct response to NATO expansion in eastern Europe, a pro-Kremlin Russian lawmaker said Friday. Kaliningrad is a parcel of land disconnected from the Russian mainland that sits on the coast of the Baltic sea, sandwiched between Poland and Lithuania. A Russian deployment of S-400 surface-to-air missiles and nuclear-capable Iskander balistic missiles to Kaliningrad, with its proximity to NATO member states, will undoubtedly heighten concerns among leaders of the transatlantic security alliance, who were already nervous over incoming American leader Donald Trump’s commitment to their collective...

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a directive on Wednesday to withdraw from the International Criminal Court (ICC) in Hague. The ICC is meant to be the world's first permanent court and works to prosecute leaders and countries for war crimes, genocide and "crimes against humanity." In 2000, Russia signed the Rome treaty establishing the ICC, but never ratified it. The ICC was established in 1998, and currently has over 100 member states. Like Russia, the US also signed the treaty but declared in 2002 that they had "no intention" of ratifying it. Last Tuesday, the UN General Assembly's Human Rights...

Nato chiefs, thrown into a panic by fears that Russian President Vladimir Putin might attack the West, are scrambling to put together a force of 300,000 troops which they can put on 'high alert'. Relations between Russia and the West have plunged in the last year, with Moscow's insistence on backing its Syrian ally, President Bashar al-Assad, at all costs leading to serious tension with the US, Britain and France. Most Nato members cut their defence spending dramatically since the Soviet Union collapsed in 1991 but Russia has been bolstering its military capabilities, holding parades involving more than 100,000 troops...

As of this writing, the increased U.S. troop presence in Eastern Europe includes a battalion-sized element of American troops being emplaced in the Suwalki Gap, Polish territory that borders Lithuania in a 60-mile stretch of corridor. The Russian Defense Ministry announced that 600 Russian and Belarussian airborne troops conducted training exercises in Brest, on the Belorussian-Polish border only a few miles from where the U.S. forces are deploying in Poland. This on the heels of Britain deploying 800 men, tanks, and jets to Estonia, along with pledges of Challenger 2 tanks, APC’s (Armored Personnel Carriers), and drones. Two companies of...

The FBI and U.S. intelligence agencies are examining faked documents aimed at discrediting the Hillary Clinton campaign as part of a broader investigation into what U.S. officials believe has been an attempt by Russia to disrupt the presidential election, people with knowledge of the matter said. U.S. Senator Tom Carper, a Democrat on the Senate Homeland Security Committee, has referred one of the documents to the FBI for investigation on the grounds that his name and stationery were forged to appear authentic, some of the sources who had knowledge of that discussion said. In the letter identified as fake, Carper...

Those who have been toying with outright war against Russia, and an escalation of the conflict in Syria, are putting the lives of all Americans at risk. Of course, the threat of nuclear annihilation has been with us since the earliest days of the Cold War, but Russia has now positioned itself with the largest and most destructive nuclear arsenal of any country in the world.

US MILITARY chiefs have hoarded masses of military gear in underground Norwegian caves to ward off Vladimir Putin, it is claimed. The US has already announced the deployment of 300 Marines to the Scandinavian country that shares a 120-mile border with Russia. The US military is understood to be hoarding equipment in Norwegian storage centres in the event war breaks out with Russia. The method is similar to the ones used by Nato powers during the Cold War. It comes amid deteriorating relations between Moscow and the US over the former's role supporting Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad in the country's...

Full Title: Russian hackers could FAKE voter fraud after the Presidential election to try and destabilize the US, claim government officials U.S. intelligence and law enforcement officials are warning that hackers with ties to Russia's intelligence services could try to undermine the credibility of the presidential election by posting documents online purporting to show evidence of voter fraud. The officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said however, that the U.S. election system is so large, diffuse and antiquated that hackers would not be able to change the outcome of the Nov. 8 election. But hackers could post documents, some...

Last week a story appeared, tucked in the back pages of American newspapers that are concentrating almost entirely on our leap year election ritual. Vladimir Putin, the Frank Gorshin-lookalike, former KGB agent, and current Russian dictator, once again tried to grab headlines and to indirectly interpolate himself into the American foreign policy debate, along with the election itself. Mr. Putin proposed to reopen the long-shuttered Russian military bases in sub-Saharan Africa, Vietnam, and yes, in Cuba, thereby extending Russia’s global reach and turning up the dial in his personal Cold War against America and the West. Putin, who has never...

It is hard to imagine a period since the end of the Cold War when relations between Russia and the United States have been quite so bad. ... The Russian president has spoken explicitly about the worsening climate between Washington and Moscow, insisting that what the Obama administration wants is "diktat" rather than dialogue. For all that, the US and Russia are still in contact over Syria. For all the harsh rhetoric and accusations, they both realise that they have a vital role to play in any eventual settlement of the Syrian drama. Whatever its immediate strategic intentions, a permanent...

Okay, so now we are supposed to believe that Barack Obama, The Cowardly Lion is so worried about “The Russians” hacking the Democrats to pervert the outcome of the election that he is planning to plunge America into a nuclear war to stop them. Really? How very Dr. Strangelove of him! Whether The Cowardly Lion is bluffing or serious, once again he has shown us exactly why neither he, nor any other Democrat should ever be our Commander in Chief. n 2014, United States presidential candidate Hillary Clinton purportedly accused the Russians of running fake anti-fracking and environmentalist groups who were trying to upend major projects such as the Keystone XL pipeline. According to Sputnik International, Wikileaks reportedly uncovered a paid-for speech made in 2014 by the former Secretary of State in front of an audience of “North American oil and natural gas tycoons.” “We were up against Russia pushing oligarchs and others to buy media. We were even up against phony environmental groups, and I’m a big environmentalist, but these were funded by the Russians to stand against any...

As tensions between Washington and Moscow flare, the Russian military is warning the United States that it has the ability to target stealth aircraft such as the Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor, F-35 Joint Strike Fighter and Northrop Grumman B-2 Spirit that might be operating over Syria with the Almaz-Antey S-400 (NATO: SA-21 Growler) and the recently arrived S-300V4 (NATO: SA-23 Gladiator) air and missile defense systems. However, Western defense officials and analysts are skeptical and note that both the F-22 and the F-35 were specifically designed to counter those Russian-developed weapons. Russia has ordered the US not to carry out airstrikes on Syrian army positions, warning that sophisticated air defence systems are now up and running. Putin has ordered the deployment of S-300 and S-400 units in order to protect troops on the ground. And Russian army bosses have warned that the weapons' radius may be 'a surprise' to unidentified planes, helicopters and drones in the area, according to Russia Today . Russia says it has deployed the anti-aircraft batteries because members of the Russian Reconciliation Center in Syria are working “ on the ground ” delivering aid.
