Cawthorn, at the age of 25, defeated Democrat Moe Davis, a retired Air Force Colonel who served as a prosecutor at Guantanamo Bay. The young Republican beat Davis by a 12-point margin. The Constitution lays out the age of 25 as a minimum for those seeking a seat in the House of Representatives. Cawthorn is almost a full four years younger than the next youngest member of Congress – 29-year-old Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY).
