U.S.A. –-(AmmoLand.com)-When researching incidents of firearms used to defend against bears, the surprising deadly potential of the common .22 rimfire cartridge becomes apparent. The most famous incident involving the .22 rimfire cartridge and bears is the 1953 world record grizzly bear. It was collected by Bella Twin of Slave Lake in Alberta Canada. From my article at ammoland.com: On 10 May, 1953, Bella Twin was hunting small game with her...

MISSOULA, Mont. — Thank to Dulé Krivdich for sending in this video of a grizzly bear running towards a group of hikers in Glacier National Park on Sunday afternoon. Here is his story: "Be Bear Aware Folks. This was this afternoon hiking back up after visiting Hidden Lake. Just a switchback below where my wife and I just motored through this big fella, I’d say a 500+ pound grizzly, came through a treeline, down a meadow and swiftly on to the trail itself to get to wherever he wanted to go. Now hikers just below on the same trail are...

When a mama bear started chasing after her, she did everything she could to survive. Just before the 3.5-mile turnaround, Smith saw two black bear cubs. An avid outdoors person—she attended Adirondack Woodcraft Camps for 12 summers—Smith knew the mama bear would be nearby, and she had to avoid getting in between her and her babies. “I thought, alright, this is fine, I’ll turn around early. That’s okay,” Smith told Runner’s World. “I turned around and mama is already charging toward me.” Black bears, Smith said, are supposed to be scared of people, and in the past, they’ve run from...

A family vacationing in remote Maryland woodland claim to have found a real life Yogi Bear who strolled up while they were eating a picnic and decided to join them. In a video posted to TikTok by Kaitlyn Nesbit, a black bear can be seen perched on the edge of a picnic table waiting patiently while a man makes it a peanut butter sandwich. It then chows down on the sandwich straight out of the brave man's hand as amazed onlookers shout their disbelief. Nesbitt, 29, says she captured the moment on Thursday in Deep Creek where her family are...

Black Bear hunting may be the most varied kind of hunting on the planet and it’s a very different hunting experience to every person you talk to. It could mean hunting over bait or spot and stalk, with boats or with hounds, arrows or bullets, public land or private. It could be within an hour’s drive of home or an all-out Alaskan adventure. In the last three years, I’ve tried most of the methods and I’ve brought home two black bears. Whatever you think you know about each of those methods, don’t judge them until you’ve tried them yourself. Hunting...

CNN)Black bears will not be voting in the upcoming election, but that's not stopping one bear from unknowingly showing a little support for the incumbent president. Help Asheville Bears (HAB), an organization in North Carolina, has put out a $5,000 reward to find the person or people responsible for putting a "Trump 2020" sticker on the tracking tag of a black bear. "Whoever put these political stickers on these bears is cruel and heartless," HAB wrote in a Facebook post. "HAB and our followers hope to stop and expose you. This is now the second bear this happened to, which...

Apparently, cops don’t love doughnuts just because they taste good; but also because they make effective tools in protecting the public. For proof of this, look no further than Fort Myers, Florida. That’s where animal control officers saved helpless citizens from a menacing bear with nothing more than a box of Krispy Kremes. After a young 250-pound bear was spotted wandering through the streets of Fort Myers Tuesday morning, officers from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission were called out to tranquilize it, says Officer Adam Brown. However, because tranquilizers usually don’t take effect right away, they felt using...

Honey-loving bear has great taste in cars. The great outdoors can be beautiful but terrifying at the same time. Luckily humans have developed the ability to shield themselves from most of what mother nature can dish out, but apparently not baby bears carjacking an unlocked Mercedes-Benz E-Class. Legendary animal conservationist Steve Irwin has been quoted as saying that baby bears are nature's number one carjackers, closely followed by the common Vervet Monkey and African Baboon. All we know is that whenever you go out on a wildlife cruise, it is imperative that you lock your doors unless you want to...
