Chernobyl nuclear power plant was hit by a Russian attack overnight, striking a protective shield over its destroyed fourth reactor, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said. It was designed to prevent radiation leaks and safeguard the site and the broader area from environmental hazards. According to Ukraine’s president, the strike by a Russian attack drone carrying a high-explosive warhead damaged the dome, but the fire was extinguished, and radiation levels remained stable. The situation is being monitored to assess...

LOS ANGELES, California — Mayor Karen Bass joined a community meeting about the recent L.A. fires on Tuesday that opened with a denunciation of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), which had nothing to do with the natural disaster. “The politicization of the pain in our communities is immoral,” said Rabbi Ken Chasen of Leo Baeck Temple, repeating it twice for emphasis. “Attempting to capitalize off the misery of fire survivors is unjust — the very definition of injustice.” “Now is not the time for tearing down leadership. We thank Mayor Bass and our elected leaders for listening and acting swiftly,”...

Pete Hegseth, President-elect Donald Trump’s nominee for Defense Secretary, set the record straight after Sen. Mazie Hirono (D-HI) cited thoroughly refuted anonymous reports claiming he drank on the job at Fox News. Hirono used her time during Hegseth’s confirmation hearing before the Senate Armed Services Committee to peddle the anonymous reports, which a multitude of Hegseth’s former coworkers at Fox News have refuted on record. “I have read multiple reports of your regularly being drunk at work, including by people who worked with you at Fox News. Do you know that being drunk at work is prohibited for service members...

Late-night comedians Jimmy Kimmel, Stephen Colbert, and Jon Stewart used their shows on Monday to attack President-elect Donald Trump and Republican leaders over the raging fires in Los Angeles — even though neither Trump nor the GOP is in charge of the Democrat-controlled county or state. Jimmy Kimmel even accused Trump of being racist against firefighters — a laughably ridiculous claim that the comedian made by disingenuously conflating opposition to DEI with racism. During their respective broadcasts, the comedians made no mention of California’s Democrat leaders who are ultimately responsible for managing the unfolding catastrophe.

France’s top diplomat fires a warning shot across the bows of Donald Trump, warning Europe considers Greenland part of its “sovereign borders” and should be left alone. European leaders are reacting with alarm as past and future President Donald Trump talks up the importance of the United States acquiring Greenland, the world’s largest island and a strategically valuable if underdeveloped Arctic territory in the North Atlantic. As Trump’s son flew into Greenland on the Trump jet this week the French foreign minister has appeared to tacitly put the notion of the United States buying territory off an ally on a...

In a major development, the Pentagon on Monday announced the transfer 11 Yemeni detainees at Guantanamo Bay to Oman, a move that now leaves only 15 detainees still at the detention facility. "The United States appreciates the willingness of the government of Oman and other partners to support ongoing U.S. efforts focused on responsibly reducing the detainee population and ultimately closing the Guantanamo Bay facility," said a DOD statement. In recent weeks, the Pentagon had transferred out four other detainees from Guantanamo including a detainee who was brought to...

Shamsud-Din Jabbar, 42, stayed at a rental home in New Orleans at the end of October and again in November, just weeks prior to his attack on Bourbon Street that killed 14 people. He wore the smart glasses to record video as he rode a bicycle through the French Quarter during that trip, FBI Special Agent in Charge Lyonel Myrthil said on Sunday. “Meta glasses appear to look like regular glasses, but they allow a user to record videos and photos hand-free,” Myrthil said. “They also allow the user to potentially livestream through their video.” Jabbar wore the glasses during...
