Scarborough Brags of 95% Conservative Rating: But What Would He Get Today?

Bashing Ted Cruz on Morning Joe today, Joe Scarborough pre-emptively defended himself against charges that he is an "MSNBC liberal" by claming for himself a "95% ACU [American Conservative Union] rating." That might have been true 18 years ago when Scarborough was representing the conservative panhandle of Florida in Congress. But what would Scarborough's conservative rating be today, given his liberal shift on gun control, immigration amnesty and other issues? View the video here.

ACU Releases 2005 “Rating of Congress”

ALEXANDRIA, VA— The American Conservative Union, the nation’s oldest and largest grassroots lobbying organization, today released its 2005 “Rating of Congress,” the definitive conservative assessment of the federal legislative branch. ACU has rated every member of the House and Senate since 1971, making the latest guide its 35th edition. The purpose of the “Rating” is to inform the public, in as unbiased a method as possible, exactly where individual senators and congressmen stand on the ideological spectrum. “ In the House, 38 Republicans scored a perfect 100% conservative rating in 2005, including newly elected House Majority Leader John Boehner (OH)...

Zell Miller - the ONLY Senator the ACU rated correctly in 2003

After noticing errors in how Senators were rated by the American Conservative Union in 2003, I decided to look up the roll call votes for every item that the ACU had listed for that year. Senator by Senator, I made a list of how the ACU had listed their position on the items and compared them to the actual voting records. Zell Miller (D-GA), was the only Senator that they had properly listed the voting record on. The most glaring error was the vote to accelerate the repeal of the death/estate tax. Every Senator but Zell was rated incorrectly on...

ACU-ratings needs watchdogs! (lots of errors)

I was going through some of the ratings at http://www.acuratings.org and found a number of conflicts with points they gave or took away from Senators who they claim voted for or against their position. Here's just one example: For the year 2003, acuratings listed the Death tax Repeal S.Con Res 23 (roll call 62) passed 51-48 in the Senate I didn't go through every Senator's score, but I noticed they identified a number of Senators who voted for or against the ACU position that actually didn't. For example: they gave points to Byrd, Boxer, Feinstein, Chafee, Collins, McCain, Snowe and...
