KABUL, Afghanistan, Aug. 19, 2007 – Afghan National Auxiliary Police, advised by coalition forces, countered an attack Aug. 17 in Afghanistan’s Helmand province, killing nearly a dozen insurgents. Forces were patrolling near Fire Base Robinson when about 20 insurgents attacked from buildings and trenches with small-arms fire, mortars and rocket-propelled grenades. It was the third such ambush in three days. No U.S. or Afghan forces were injured in any of the attacks, officials said. (From a Combined Joint Task Force 82 news release.)
