Months worth of heavy rain fell in a matter of hours on Texas Hill Country, Kerr County Sheriff Larry Leitha said. The region is dotted with century-old summer camps that draw thousands of kids annually. Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick said about 23 girls attending Camp Mystic, a Christian camp along the Guadalupe River, were unaccounted for Friday afternoon. ... This is a photo gallery curated by AP photo editors.

Lawrence Herrera started carrying a folded-up copy of his birth certificate in his wallet last week. He also saved a picture of his passport on his phone’s camera roll. For the 67-year-old Atwater Village resident who was born and raised here, the precaution felt silly. But he’s not taking any chances. “I started hearing, ‘He’s taking anyone and everyone,’” Herrara said, referrring to President Trump’s immigration crackdown. “I thought, ‘You know what? That could be me.’” Herrera was one of hundreds of protesters who spent Fourth of July in downtown Los Angeles to rally against the immigration raids that have...

More than 100,000 patients who visited hospitals in Texas between last November and February of this year admitted they were illegal migrants, according to state data. The data was gathered after Texas Republican Gov. Greg Abbott signed a law last year requiring hospitals to ask registering patients if they are a legal U.S. resident. According to KXAN-TV, by the end of February, 108,581 patients admitted to being illegal aliens — about 2.3 percent of all patients. This number, though, is obviously not complete. The law does not require patients to answer the question, and 12.9 percent — or 617,000 patients...

**SNIP** California celebrations cancelled Several communities in the Los Angeles area have cancelled Independence Day festivities due to safety concerns over Trump administration’s immigration crackdown. The raids have triggered weeks of protests across the city and led Trump to deploy National Guard troops and Marines. The Los Angeles neighborhood of El Sereno cancelled its parade after 90% of participants dropped out. Organizer Genny Guerrero said the majority Latino community is “very patriotic.” But many people are avoiding events out of fear of immigration agents. “The fact that they’re taking anyone that is brown, regardless of citizenship, that puts everyone in...

Join with fellow FREEPERS to pray for AMERICA: For those in Authority in Government, Family, Military, Business, Agri-Business; End to Sex Slavery; Healthcare, Education, Churches, and the Media. This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. (1 John 5:14) I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone: for kings and all those in authority that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. ~ 1 Timothy 2:1-2 Religion Forum Threads labeled [Prayer] are closed to...

Red, white and blue is becoming red vs. blue. As Americans celebrate Independence Day, patriotism itself is becoming a source of division, according to a new poll shared exclusively with The Post. The survey conducted by New Jersey-based GOP firm National Research Inc. found that 91% of self-identified Republicans call themselves patriots, compared to just 50% of Democrats. The poll showed a near-identical schism among 2024 voters, with 90% of those who backed President Trump identifying as patriots compared to 55% of former Vice President Kamala Harris supporters. Among self-described conservatives, 87% deemed themselves a patriot, compared to 51% of...

Former World Bank President David Malpass criticized the U.S. Federal Reserve for keeping its benchmark interest rate elevated, during a July 2 interview with CNBC. The Fed began raising rates from near zero in 2022 in a bid to rein in inflation. They peaked at 5.5 percent in 2023. The central bank then cut rates multiple times last year, bringing them down to a range of 4.25 to 4.5 percent. Last month, the Fed left rates unchanged for the fourth straight meeting. “The Fed has the rates too high. And the question is when are they going to cut and...

"I can negotiate with a man who wants to make money. I can't negotiate with a communist who wants to kill me." — Josh Lippincott on "X" O, Norman Rockwell, where are you when we really need you? Forgive us, Emma Lazarus, our second thoughts about those huddled masses yearning to breathe free. . . the wretched refuse of your teeming shore(s). That was then and this is now. O, beautiful for spacious skies (but, why so many contrails criss-crossing overhead from the New York Island to the gulf stream waters?). O, land of tattooed grandmas, hostages of the tiny...

What a difference a year makes. Former President Joe Biden was snapped struggling to set up a beach chair Thursday before catching some rays with family near his son Hunter’s home in Malibu, Calif., to kick off his first Independence Day weekend since leaving office. The ex-commander-in-chief — who took more vacation days than any modern US president — looked right at home lounging under a red umbrella with former first lady Jill Biden, while granddaughter Finnegan and grandson Beau Biden Jr. frolicked in the sand nearby. At least 577 days of Biden’s 1,463-day term were spent vacationing — including...

In one of the first nationwide hypothetical polls for the 2028 Democratic presidential primary, Illinois Governor and billionaire JB Pritzker ranks at the bottom, receiving the lowest level of support from minority voters as prominent Democrats begin preparing for potential campaigns. On Friday, the well-regarded Emerson College Polling released new results showing former U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg leading the Democratic field with 16 percent support. Former Vice President Kamala Harris follows at 13 percent, with California Governor Gavin Newsom close behind at 12 percent. JB Pritzker, billionaire heir to the Hyatt Hotel fortune who invested over $350 million of...

Black New York isn’t buying it. A slew of black Big Apple residents fumed Friday over mayoral front-runner Zohran Mamdani’s claim on an Ivy League college application that he is African American — with them raging the socialist pol is a “fraud” and “trickster.” “He’s just trying to get over,” an 86-year-old Harlem resident, identifying herself only as Marjorie, said of Mamdani, a socialist of Asian Indian descent. “You can look at him and see he’s not” black, she said. “Absolutely not. “I don’t like him. I didn’t like him from the first time I heard him. You can look...

Brawls, assaults, drunken fights, boots on the grounds and fans in hands just might have Carnival Cruise Line saying, "Enough is enough!" And some Black passengers are returning the favor, cancelling their existing reservations or cancelling the cruise line all together because they deem their new rules are racist. But some argue, "Are the new policies racist, or just restrictive?" The discourse began after Carnival — who has the most allegations of serious crimes committed at sea than any other cruise line sailing from North America, per the FBI — implemented new rules. According to reports, as of June 1,...

Some advice fades with time. What sounded wise in one decade can feel laughably outdated in another. But every now and then, a piece of old-school wisdom sneaks up and reminds you—it’s still rock solid, even if the world around it has changed.

[Catholic Caucus] Traditionis Custodes: The Narrative Is All LiesWe must thank God today. Many secret documents in the Vatican will never see the light of day for many years, decades, or even centuries. Think about the following:The papers against Cardinal Rampolla as a member of the OTO, which caused him to be vetoed as Pope in 1903The 1978 dossier of Cardinal Gagnon, which documented the Masonic corruption of the Vatican and possibly caused the murder of John Paul IThe 2013 dossier which documented Vatican corruption which, Pope Francis admitted, was given to him by Pope Emeritus BenedictAlmost four years ago...

[Catholic Caucus] The Shifting Sands of Traditionis custodesFollowing Diane Montagna’s bombshell revelation of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith's summary of the Bishops opinion on Summorum Pontificum, it was wondered by many how the defenders of Traditionis custodes would respond. While the first 24 hours saw a flurry of defenses call into question her reporting (none of them very compelling), defenders have received their talking points and have settled upon a defense. What they do not realize is this defense puts them into an even more precarious position. As a quick refresher, Montagna was given what could be described...

The media claim that President Donald Trump — who bombed Iran’s nuclear sites and is busy deporting antisemitic foreign students — used an antisemitic slur in a speech Thursday when he referred to “shylocks.” Trump used the term in a speech to supporters in Iowa following the passage Thursday of the “Big, Beautiful Bill” in the House of Representatives. The context was the bill’s increase in the amount of inheritance that is excluded from the federal estate tax, also known as the “death tax,” which affects some family farms. Trump said: And very importantly for Iowa, this bill rescues over...
