CHARLESTOWN, Ky. (WDRB) -- The students at Charlestown High School have won a lot of awards and accolades over the years, but senior Alexis Taylor's latest accomplishment can't fit in a trophy case: She's Clark County, Indiana's newest deputy coroner and she's just 18 years old. "Anytime that we have an autopsy, I try to get there when I can. It all kind of depends on my school schedule," Taylor said. "I have to remember, no I'm still in high school. I still have a lot ahead of me." Looking to add to her senior year course load, Taylor started the school...

Last week the nation watched in horror as the body count of Broward school children and staff doubled by the minute. The very next day the FBI admitted they had failed to act on a vital lead that explicitly detailed the mass murderer's intentions to kill people at his school. Immediately, Florida Gov. Rick Scott called for FBI Director Christopher Wray to resign in the wake of the Parkland school shooting. While the FBI apologized and issued a standard vague statement, Gov. Scott said Wray must resign, saying acknowledging a mistake “isn’t going to cut it..” "An apology will never...

Florida Gov. Rick Scott is facing a growing number of calls to remove the Broward County sheriff from his position over the department’s response to the high school shooting that left 17 people dead. State Rep. Bill Hager, R-Boca Raton, sent a letter to Scott Saturday urging him to relieve Sheriff Scott Israel from his duties for “neglect of duty and incompetence," the Palm Beach Post reported. *snip* In addition, a survivor of the shooting told Fox News on Sunday that the sheriff had to go. “He failed to act on so many different levels and him himself, he is...

Goen Gao runs a tourism company for Chinese visitors called Hawaii Lulutrip, and a side business called HI Baby USA Center, which helps pregnant women from China to safely deliver babies in Hawaii. The side business is part of maternity tourism, a growing business sector in Hawaii, California and other parts of the U.S. in which pregnant Chinese women travel to the U.S. to give birth so their children become American citizens and can get American passports. But the service is not cheap: A baseline package for three months is $33,000, according to the HI Baby USA Center website, which...

I’ve been saying for a while now that too many scammers and opportunists have been taking advantage of the Tea Party and conservative grassroots. But the most illuminating thing in the piece is simply this table:It shows what each organization spent on 2014 cycle “followed by how much each PAC gave to politicians either directly or through independent expenditures on their behalf. Then, last but not least, we have the percentage of their money they spent that actually went into independent expenditures & direct contributions." ". . . the 10 PACs at the bottom of this list spent $54,318,498 and...

President Trump’s plan to arm selected teachers has already been in effect for years in several Missouri school districts, it was reported Saturday. Aaron Sydow, superintendent of a district in the city of West Plains, told USA Today that it’s “sad that it’s come to this” but necessary. Teachers interested in carrying concealed weapons go through 40 hours of training — which also includes a psychiatric evaluation. Those who pass must also undergo 24 hours of training every year.

Called "disgraceful," "third-rate," and "not nice" by Donald Trump, NBC News correspondent Katy Tur reported on—and took flak from—the most captivating and volatile presidential candidate in American history. Katy Tur lived out of a suitcase for a year and a half, following Trump around the country, powered by packets of peanut butter and kept clean with dry shampoo. She visited forty states with the candidate, made more than 3,800 live television reports, and tried to endure a gazillion loops of Elton John’s "Tiny Dancer"—a Trump rally playlist staple. From day 1 to day 500, Tur documented Trump’s inconsistencies, fact-checked his...

One day a florist went to a barber for a haircut. After the cut, he asked about his bill, and the barber replied, 'I cannot accept money from you; I'm doing community service this week.' The florist was pleased and left the shop. When the barber went to open his shop the next morning, there was a 'thank you' card and a dozen roses waiting for him at his door. Later, a cop comes in for a haircut, and when he tries to pay his bill, the barber again replied, 'I cannot accept money from you; I'm doing community service...

A 21-year-old student from Rochester City School District has been arrested after she threatened to shoot up a school in Upstate New York. Rochester Deputy Mayor Dr. Cedric Alexander and Deputy Chief La'Ron Singletary spoke at a news conference Friday afternoon where they said Abigail Hernandez made a credible threat against East High School. Hernandez is not a student at East High School. Police were notified on February 16 by a member of staff after Hernandez wrote on Facebook 'I'm coming tomorrow morning and I'm going to shoot all of ya bitches,' according to WJLA.
