The commandant of the Marine Corps will have five years to stop separating men and women at the service's oldest boot camp, if a new amendment added to the 2020 defense authorization bill survives to ratification.
Rep. Jackie Speier, a California Democrat and chair of the House Armed Services Military Personnel subcommittee, proposed the amendment on Wednesday,
"Training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina, may not be segregated based on gender," the measure states. "The Commandant of the Marine Corps shall carry out this subsection not later than five years after the date of the enactment of this Act."
All female Marine recruits currently complete their entry-level training at Parris Island. No women attend the Marine Corps' West Coast training depot for new enlistees.
Speier wants that to change, too. The commandant would have eight years to make training fully coed, the proposal states.
The measure was passed by the House Armed Services Committee by a vote of 31 to 26. Next it must be approved by the full House before moving onto the Senate, where it could face opposition from the Republican majority.
Almost every operational role and training course in the military is gender integrated, with the exception of Marine Corps boot camp, Speier said as she introduced the measure.
"Fully integrating women is not only the right thing to do, it makes our military stronger," she said. "The women Marines serving in recently opened combat positions that I have met are immeasurably brave, tough, and inspiring. Each of them have had to prove themselves, over and over again, to male peers and superiors."
That problem can be solved, she said, by having all recruits train together at the start of their Marine Corps careers, regardless of gender.

How is it the right thing to do? Only a denier of biology and science would say that men and women are the same. Integration of a stronger force with a weaker force never improves the two but forces an average, degrading the stronger in favor of the weaker. You cannot make steel stronger by amalgamating it with aluminum.

As a Former Marine (67-71), I take great offense at this nitwit congress-loser attempting to undermine the Marines. The clueless idiot LIB/DIM should be thrown from office and either shunned or exiled. Any position of responsibility or authority is obviously above this feckless loser’s pay grade.
Their priority is pushing a social agenda and undermining National Defense.
The First Step should be for McConnell to Amend it and Require BOTH Congressional Gyms be 100% Gender Neutral, especially the Showers and Restrooms.

Unless they “dumb” down the qualifications by a minimum of 50% no woman could even come close to qualifying.

When I was at their graduation last year they had separate awards for the men and women in fitness, sharpshooting, etc. If women were able to meet the standards that wouldn't have been necessary.
And yes, the women "winners" scores were less, in every category.

I used to watch “American Ninja Warrior” … clever show, in which the men and women compete on a completely equal basis to overcome an increasingly difficult series of obstacle courses. Anyone who proposes to integrate combat arms should watch two or three seasons of ANW, and explain the results of that competition.
Hint: The top competitors were all of the XY variety; the best of the XX competitors weren’t really in the same category.
