Following weeks of protests about police brutality and racism, many activists have begun calling out the band Dixie Chicks to change their name, claiming the word “Dixie” harbors “the epitome of white America.” The Dixie Chicks, a band composed of Natalie Maines and twin sisters Martie Maguire and Emily Strayer, is a country band that was started in 1989. The Chicks soared to popularity until a comment by Maines about President George W. Bush in 2003 sent their career on a downward spiral from which it never fully recovered. In London for a concert, Maines told the crowd in 2003,...

Dixie Chicks singer Natalie Maines is in the middle of divorcing her husband Adrian Pasdar, who has been on the TV shows Heroes and Agents of SHIELD. And this week the 53-year-old actor has slowed the process down by asking his soon-to-be ex-wife for a very large sum of money even though he signed a prenup agreement before they wed 19 years ago. Pasdar would like $60,000 a month - $44,076 a month in spousal and an additional $16,427 in child support - according to The Blast, as he claimed anything less would be very difficult for him. They have...

After all the excitement and the flurry of media coverage and great posts I've read here on Free Republic in the last few days, I thought I'd post this series of random, rambling thoughts about the self-inflicted demise of what had once been one of this country's iconic cultural institutions: the National Football League. I gathered these from many of the things I've posted in recent days, and I wanted to share them with anyone (everyone) who wants to chime in on this unfolding disaster. I was going to post it as a more serious, formal article, but I figured...

In the latest issue of Cosmopolitan, Michelle Obama‘s Chief of Staff Melissa Winter opens up about how she got her job and how she felt on election night in 2016. The answer is: Bad. Very bad. So bad that when it was clear Donald Trump had won, she left the party abruptly and early and went to her car to drown her sorrows in the Dixie Chicks. “I had gone to a party at one of our staffer’s homes. I was watching what was happening on TV, and I looked at my host and I said to her, ‘I’m not...

“If anyone does do it, I hope that the check that they get is in the nine figures. Because it’s probably the last check they’re ever going to get,” Simon Renshaw tells TheWrap The Dixie Chicks’ manager says the title of one of their songs sums up why Donald Trump’s inauguration team can’t book A-list talent: Hollywood isn’t ready to make nice with the president-elect. Trump’s inaugural committee is still struggling to lock in A-list talent for his big festivities, according to Hollywood insiders, and even offering ambassadorships to anyone who can wrangle top singers. “If anyone does do it,...

The Dixie Chicks kicked off their DCX MMXVI World Tour Friday in Cincinnati by performing in front of a massive backdrop showing Republican presumptive presidential nominee Donald Trump with devil horns on his head and a satanic mustache and goatee. Last night’s politically-charged performance wasn’t the first time the Texas-based country music band used their celebrity status to take shots at a major Republican party leader. During a performance in London in 2003, Dixie Chicks lead singer Natalie Maines told the crowd that she was “ashamed the president of the United States is from Texas.” Maines’ attack on President George...

The Dixie Chicks have never been known for their conservative views. In fact, they used to be some of the most outspoken liberal voices in country music. Back in 2003, just days before the Iraq war, lead singer Natalie Maines told a crowd in London: “We don’t want this war, this violence, and we’re ashamed that the President of the United States is from Texas” Now they’re taking shots at another Republican- this time a little more subtly:

In July of 2003, the Dixie Chicks, a platinum-selling Texas-based country band, was playing a show in England when lead singer Natalie Maines decided to address the contentious debate over whether or not the United States should invade Iraq. “Just so you know, we’re on the good side with y’all,” Maines told the London audience. "We do not want this war, this violence, and we’re ashamed that the president of the United States is from Texas." -snip- The whole incident is worth recounting because here we are, almost 13 years later, and the lead in the Republican primary race, Donald...
