Outraged by a freewheeling Christmas Eve Mass that featured jazz musicians, choreographed dances around the altar, and theatrical lighting effects, some Catholics are calling on Cardinal Blase Cupich to crack down on liturgical abuses in Novus Ordo Masses in the Archdiocese of Chicago, rather than imposing severe restrictions on reverential Traditional Latin Masses. Father Michael L. Pfleger, a well-known social activist in Chicago, celebrated the Dec. 24 evening Mass, which was live streamed from St. Sabina Church, a predominantly Black parish on the city’s South Side. Pfleger has been the pastor there since 1981. Many of those upset by the...

The Rev. Michael Pfleger on Sunday returned to his South Side parish for the first time since he was reinstated last month following an investigation into decades-old allegations of sexual abuse, a process he described as “a painful nightmare” spurred by “false accusations.” “It’s good to be home,” Pfleger told a raucous congregation at St. Sabina Church in Auburn Gresham that included director Spike Lee and acting Chicago Fire Commissioner Annette Nance-Holt. The service, which stretched roughly three hours, gave Pfleger a platform to both reflect on the tumultuous five-month period during which he was under investigation, and to further...

Cupich issues final warning over ‘tactics of intimidation’ by Pfleger parishCardinal Blase Cupich has said he will turn over the investigation of a popular local priest accused of sexual abuse to another diocese if efforts to “intimidate” members of the Archdiocese of Chicago’s Independent Review Board do not come to an end. “Once again this week, there was an organized effort through the St. Sabina website to employ inappropriate and intimidating tactics to put pressure on the Archdiocese of Chicago and the Independent Review Board (IRB) as the case of Father Michael Pfleger Is being processed,” Cupich wrote in an...

Washington D.C., Mar 24, 2021 / 10:00 am MT (CNA).- An activist Chicago priest has pledged to return to some form of parish ministry while he remains under investigation by the archdiocese for three different allegations of sexual abuse. “Over the next days, I will seek other ways and opportunities to minister in the Auburn Gresham community and continue outreach while this process seemingly drags on,” said a March 22 letter from Fr. Michael Pfleger to his parish of St. Sabina’s, and to other community leaders. St. Sabina - also known as St. Sabina Faith Community - is located in...

CHICAGO (CBS) — A third man has come forward claiming that he was sexually abused by the Rev. Michael Pfleger when the man was a teenager more than 40 years ago. Pfleger was removed from St. Sabina’s parish, pending an investigation into allegations of past sexual abuse. Both of Pfleger’s original accusers – two brothers – shared their story exclusively with CBS 2 Political Investigator Dana Kozlov. They told her they could no longer keep their secret. I would like people to see there is a dark side to Mike Pfleger,” one of the men told Kozlov in January. The...

Washington D.C., Mar 1, 2021 / 12:20 pm MT (CNA).- The parish of St. Sabina in Chicago announced on Sunday that it would withhold its monthly contributions to the archdiocese until an abuse investigation into its longtime pastor is completed. Two brothers in January had accused Fr. Michael Pfleger of sexually abusing them when they were teens. Pfleger denies the allegations, but he stepped aside from ministry after the first accusation was made and the archdiocese first announced its investigation. Fr. Pfleger is known for his outspoken social justice activism. Almost two months after the first allegation was made against...

Michael Pfleger of sexually abusing him as a minor decades ago, the Chicago archdiocese has confirmed to local media. The priest has strongly denied both accusations, which come from two brothers. The Chicago archdiocese’s general counsel had “just received” the second allegation Sunday evening, a spokesperson told the Chicago Sun-Times. “It is important to note that Fr. Pfleger remains removed from ministry pending the outcome of civil and church investigations,” said the spokesperson. “We will continue to follow our process...

Frightful: Tarantino, Pfleger, Farrakhan

From USA Today: Police unions in New York, Philadelphia and Los Angeles have already called for a boycott of Tarantino films—his latest, The Hateful Eight, lands on Christmas Day—and now the New Jersey State Police Benevolent Association has joined the shame-on-Tarantino chorus. Tarantino is under pressure because of inflammatory remarks he made at a protest against police brutality in New York last weekend, in which he suggested some cops who shoot civilians are ‘murderers’ and he stands ‘with the murdered.’ I’m all for freedom of speech, but I have to side with the police unions on this one. Maybe it’s...

Father Pfleger does not Trust Black People with Guns

This is where racism leads. Father Pfleger of Chicago and other disarmists have filed a lawsuit against three municipalities outside of Chicago. In essence, that lawsuit says that black people cannot stop themselves from murdering and stealing, so people outside of Chicago have to keep strict controls on the sale of guns. Too understand the lawsuit, it claims that lack of strict gun controls has a disproportionate effect on black people.

One would think that Catholic priests like Chicago’s Rev. Michael Pfleger, an early supporter of Barack Obama and his push for gun control, would not be bearing false witness against one of his neighbors. Yet there he was standing in front of Chuck’s Gun Shop in suburban Riverdale, Illinois, to blame it, and other legal businesses like it, along with the National Rifle Association, for the murder spree in the gun-controlled progressive worker’s paradise of Chicago. Standing with the camera-shy Rev. Jesse Jackson and the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence president Dan Gross in front of the gun shop,...

The Rev. Michael Pfleger was cheered, booed, heckled and given a standing ovation at St. George Catholic Church in Tinley Park. And that was all in reaction to a speech urging everyone to join together to stop the killing of children on the streets of Chicago and throughout the United States. Makes you wonder what the reaction would have been if his topic had actually been something controversial.. Pfleger always sparks controversy. The priest, who has made his home base of St. Sabina Parish in Chicago a stopping-off point for national political leaders and Hollywood celebrities, has a knack for...

On June 6, Reverend Michael Pfleger listed recent shootings in heavily gun-controlled Chicago then said the NRA “will pay pay for the murder of our children.” He was joined by Reverend Jesse Jackson and the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence president Dan Gross.Pleger began his speech at the rally by pointing out that ten persons were shot and three were killed on the night of June 5 alone. He then said, “I’m not a gun grabber, I’m a life lover,” after which he pointed to Chuck’s Gun Shop and said, “And I love life more than the death that...

Activist priest Michael Pfleger was urging churches everywhere to take time out of services on Sunday for some civil disobedience, as a response to the second case of a grand jury failing to indict a white police officer who killed an unarmed black man. “I think it’s a great opportunity to show a unity in church. The church has to be vocal in this,” Pfleger said. His call for action comes one day after a Staten Island grand jury decided not to indict New York Police Officer Daniel Pantaleo in the death of 43-year-old Eric Garner. The grand jury decided...
