I know there are "loads" of "Roman Catholics" (Latin Rite Catholics) here on FR, but I'm curious if there are any Eastern Rite Catholics here on FR. I've been fascinated by Eastern Rite Catholicism for a while. I saw a Ruthenian Rite Divine Litury on EWTN recently, amd it sparked my mind into finding out more about the traditions of the Eastern rites. If anyone is an Eastern Rite Catholic, or is fascinated with the diverse rites of Catholicism, please leave your comments here!
I have attended two baptisms in the locaL Byzantine Catholic churches. This area has a very large concentration of Byzantine Catholic churches compared to the rest of the country. It is a beautiful, reverent Liturgy but so very foreign to my Latin Rite sensibilities.
Frankly, it doesn't say much good about that deeply held doctrine of the West, and I wouldn't be pleased to see what my Latin Rite brothers had to say about the practice if I were a uniate.
People are better off in full Orthodoxy, as opposed to the lighter version of it offered in the Eastern Rite.
"The other big problem in this widening debate, as in the arguments over what "conservatism" is, is that people are claiming that they have the "true" Catholicism. I think in most cases, all sides to this debate have vaild points. It is when we're reduced to name-calling and making claims of exclusivity that we reach crisis point. The frame of our argument is mostly within the "Roman" rite of Catholicism. At the same time, however, we have NUMEROUS other rites of Catholicism that have different traditions and ways of celebrating the Sacraments. They are as much ONE, HOLY, CATHOLIC, and APOSTOLIC as we are. I don't think many people would question that. Also, the Church has held that the Eastern Orthodox have valid lines of apostolic succession, many commonalities with the "Western" church, etc. Are they any less "Christian" than us? I'd say not....
The only people we can validly criticize on all grounds are the "Catholics in name only" (or Orthodox in name only) and the separatists of the various Protestant faiths. They have been mindnumbed and blinded by half truths. We need to stop nitpicking about everything. The great enemies to our faith are assaulting us at every turn while we fight amongst ourselves."

What wonderful prayers in the Divine Liturgy of Saint John Chrysostom!
CHERUBIMIC HYMN
Let us, who mystically represent the Cherubim, and sing the thrice-holy hymn to the life-creating Trinity, now set aside all earthly cares. (3 times)
HYMN TO THE BLESSED VIRGIN
It is truly proper to glorify you, who have borne God, the ever-blessed and immaculate Mother of our God. More honorable than the Cherubim and beyond compare more glorious than the Seraphim, who, a Virgin, gave birth to God the Word. You, truly the Mother of God, we magnify.
PRAYER FOR A WORTHY COMMUNION
O Lord, I believe and profess that You are truly Christ, the Son of the living God, Who came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the first.
Accept me as a partaker of Your mystical supper, O Son of God, for I will not reveal Your mysteries to Your enemies, nor will I give You a kiss as did Judas, but like the thief I confess to You.
Remember me, O Lord, when You shall come into Your kingdom.
Remember me, O Master, when You shall come into Your kingdom.
Remember me, O Holy One, when You shall come into Your kingdom.
May the partaking of Your holy mysteries, O Lord, be not for my judgment or condemnation, but for the healing of soul and body.
O God, be merciful to me a sinner.
O God, cleanse my sins and have mercy on me.
O Lord, forgive me for I have sinned without number.
I know! Those aren't the only ones either! I actually just discovered that site earlier today (technically yesterday). As I mentioned earlier, I saw a Ruthenian Byzantine Divine Liturgy earlier this month, and I was amazed by its beauty. There's a Ukranian Catholic church nearby, and I've visited it once when I was younger, but now, I should attend one of their Divine Liturgies!
I am in full agreement. I know nothing about the Eastern Rite churches to share anyway.
I do know enough, however, to inform you that this is an understatement and untrue.
