The Islamic States will never love nor trust us. They will fear our strength and resolve. After September 11th that is all that counts. They should fear our wrath so much that they will cooperate with us and never attack (or harbor those who would try) again.

I subscribe to this policy. We are not yet ready to back it up, however.

I don't think it is "if" necessary, but when necessary. Unfortunately, these slime bags, along with slime bags down through history, have shown that military power is the only thing they fear and respect. Powell is either an idiot, or we are preparing, but as the other writer asked. How many dead Israelis are we willing to trade for time?
