The Neverending Story
An ongoing debate on Scripture, Tradition, History and Interpretation.

Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue. - John Adams

an older horse should probably have all the help they can get. I remember readinga poem one time and one line stuck with me and made me think hard on the issue. It was being said by a horse and said something like "and when I reach old age love me enough to know when it is time to put me down. Turning me out pasture with arthritis and bad teeth is not always the kindest thing you can do for me." So many people won't make the hard decisions, and think they are doing them a favor by just not riding them.

And I would rather put down an older horse who is past use then watch him go down slowly on their own. I think medical science for horses have actually been a bit detrimental to horse. With all the good feed and med. and everything horse can be kept alive longer then their bodies were meant to last. I see alot of old horse that should have been dead long ago,

By winning the ACC, Florida state gets an automatic bid to a BCS game, even though they have four losses! Meanwhile, USC has been the hottest team in the country, but could still get shut out of a BCS game unless UCLA beats Washington State. Worse, USC could end up getting passed over for an at-large bid in favor of Notre Dame, even though they crushed Notre Dame in their head-to-head matchup, even though they are ranked 4th in the BCS poll, and Notre Dame is ranked 10th.

On the other hand, the Big Ten can't field an eligible team for their Seventh place guaranteed bowl, so maybe USC could play in the Motor City Bowl, or whatever?

There's no way a 4 loss team should be guaranteed anything. I guess it's time for more off-season "tweaking," eh?

I can think of a few 3 or 4 loss teams that deserve a big bowl more than FSU. But my main complaint is that the cnferences have these guaranteed tie ins that remove any sense of creativity from the selection process. If 4th place Big ten versus 5th place SEC means a yawner, that's tough.

(And yes, this is still because I think 9-3 Penn State versus 8-4 Pitt would be a bonanza bowl and moneymaker for the host.)

Oh, he has plenty of authority: more than he can handle, apparently. Remember Nicholas II? Imagine the harm Law could have done had he a wife.

Of course, the implication concerned the selective nature of his "authority". The board which he hires and fires has "authority" over him. Yah! Sure!

There is a timely article in today's Boston Globe concerning his use of "authority"

Curb imposed on Newton parish

By Michael Paulson, Globe Staff, 12/5/2002

NEWTON - Cardinal Bernard F. Law, attempting to assert his authority even as criticism of his conduct rises to fever pitch, has summarily banned all church agencies from holding meetings at a vibrant Newton parish headed by an outspoken pastor who has questioned church teachings on gays and women and has sometimes chafed at Law's leadership.

Law offered no explanation for the ban, but it comes after the pastor, the Rev. Walter H. Cuenin, invited more than 100 priests to a gathering tomorrow to discuss concerns about the archdiocese's current fund-raising drive. The priests planned to discuss the difficulty of raising money when the archdiocese is considering bankruptcy and has been forced to release documents containing allegations of a priest striking a woman, another using drugs, and others molesting children and having sex with adults.

Law's action, barring all ''archdiocesan-sponsored or archdiocesan-related meetings'' from taking place on the grounds of Our Lady Help of Christians Church, has infuriated area priests, as well as parishioners at the booming church.

Entire article here->

The Globe only keeps their articles up for two days (free, that is). If you have an interest you'd beter go there today or tomorrow.

We also have to reemmber that the men who wrote about Noah did so many years after him, so they were interpreting the story in terms they were familiar with. How sure are we how old the tradition of unclean/clean animals was?

Certainly that is an issue as well, but I usually don't get into that cause then people say "well, didn't God write what He wanted to write?" and then we have to get into a discussion of inspiration versus dictation and then pretty soon we are discussing the Incarnation and what it means for subjects like Divine Inspiration.

I may not always agree but I respect ministers of all different faiths of God unless they show me a reason not to.

Agreed. And the "Pro Choice" Minister Bill O"Reilly had on last night certainly doesn't have my respect.

PS What I really like about this thread is how yall make up before "going to bed" LOL CD

I don't make any particular effort to "make up". On the other hand, I don't stay angry for more than a minute or two. By the time I go to bed I have no memory of "The Neverending . . .". This is either a blessing or advancing senility.

For years Law has tolerated vipers such as Cuenin--even worse than he. So now he gets bit.

Well, that's certainly huge. It seems Cardinal Law would welcome right about now being relieved of his duties. Which is why, I reckon, he wasn't. He has a bit more reckoning to do.

We'll have to see how this plays out. The plaintiff lawyers seem to think it is a ploy to hasten, and/or, reduce the $'s in play.

Frankly, I think it would be a serious mistake for the Archdiocese. It would be tantamount to admitting they are First - a business, and Second - a Church.

The problem and the publicity will not go away.

I didn't watch much tv last night, but did you read the letter? The pro-choice issue was bad enough but he was talking about Jesus being pro-choice too. Did he mention that last night? CD
