Documentary details horrific cruelty towards and abuse of First Nations children in residential schools and discovery of unmarked graves
This gripping account of the abuse of First Nations children at Catholic residential schools in Canada rightly won the jury prize for documentary direction at Sundance in January and is now an early Academy Award favourite.
Early in the film, a group of volunteers ventures into a barn on the grounds of St Joseph’s Mission residential school near the Sugarcane Reservation in British Columbia. They find heartbreaking inscriptions from desperate children. Investigators Charlene Belleau and Whitney Spearing uncover more than 50 unmarked graves nearby.
Founded in the late 19th century, St Joseph’s was one of many state-supported Catholic institutions intended to counter “the Indian problem”. The grandmother of Julian Brave NoiseCat, the film’s codirector, who was himself born in mysterious circumstances in the institution, says, “Before we went to school we spoke the Secwépemc language – only Secwepemctsín – in the community; no English. They tried to take that out of us. So much stuff ... stuff I should have talked about.”
Rosalin Sam, an elderly survivor, recounts the culture of silence as she names the priest who abused her. “I went to the nun. She told me to tell the priest. I told the priest. He told me to tell the Indian agent. I told the Indian agent. He told me to tell the RCMP [Royal Canadian Mounted Police]. I told the RCMP. He went and told my dad. And my dad beat the s**t out of me.”
Headlines about the gruesome discovery of 200 unmarked graves of indigenous children at another regional school precipitate a series of arson attacks.

are these the graves that turned out not to graves, or are these different graves?
As Commies like to say, "Debunked."

Yup...these are the not graves.
One and the same— this did NOT happen, so naturally they make a movie fake as hell. Already disproven since this went into production— they have to put it out to recoup their costs.
Naturally, any movie that makes a christian religion look bad and/or ridiculous is going to be in the running for an award.
Remember how popular that broadway show about Mormons was?
“The Book of Mormon”, was the title. Full of the silly and the lewd.
A colossal lie.
Take down the Catholic Church, and you finish off Christianity.
that’s the neo-marxist plan
Straight from the pit of hell.
Not only were the graves unmarked , they didn’t even have bodies in them either
Exactly!
Exactly!
No bodies in those graves? See how sneaky those Catholics are?
Bingo.
Filthy lies and slander. This lie caused a wave of terrorist church burnings across Canada. Dozens of historic rural churches were destroyed…. over a pack of lies.
Something to look forward to? I think not.
From the trailer, there is a cemetery with gravestones etc but without names. So the moviemakers capitalized on the unfounded “mass graves” hoax you mention, and trade on the idea that where the buried body isn’t identified, it is an “unmarked grave,” which sounds way more ominous than the banal reality.
No doubt there is much to apologize for here, but it isn’t what the hysterical antiCatholic polemicists imply..

Which the News Media screamed as “MASS GRAVES!” causing dozens of churches to be burned. When no mass graves were found the term was downgraded to “unmarked graves.”
As one writer said, it was because a person who died of an illness had to be buried quickly as it was illegal to ship an infected body across the country.
With no embalming think of the problems.
A wooden marker was used as no one had money for a tombstone. The markers soon rotted away.
With some tribes, the name of the dead must not be mentioned for a certain amount of time due to tribal beliefs.
But all that did not stop a sensationalist press from screaming “MASS GRAVES!”
Where I live, just east of the Cherokee Reservation in Oklahoma, there are plenty of small cemeteries around here some with no markings other than a rock and sunken ground to show where a burial had taken place. Where I lived in New Mexico I can show you several abandoned cemeteries way off in the outback. Same in the Ozarks.
Sadly ignorant people will believe the fake tales told for the next 200 years.
Yes, if you hate Christians. Propaganda for leftists is classic since the Russian revolution.
Well. I’m a practicing Catholic and as opposed to “anti-Catholic polemicists” as anyone else. But let’s not forget that the heretical/schismatic occupant of the throne of Peter was more than happy to get in there and grovel over the fake atrocities
