Great that William Bell Scott included a zampognaro (piper) in his painting. I loved walking around the streets of Rome in my youth, at Christmas time, listening to the sound of the zampogne (bagpipes) and eating roasted chestnuts bought from street vendors. It was truly the smell and sound of Christmas.
