Muslim and Protestant Politicians Receive Communion at German Catholic Event

Stuttgart, Germany, Jun 1, 2022 / 02:45 am A Muslim politician and at least one Protestant politician have received Communion at Masses celebrated by bishops during a multi-day Catholic event in Germany.

The same event, held on May 25-29, reportedly barred organizers of the German March for Life from having a stall.

Muhterem Aras, a Turkish-born Muslim and prominent state parliamentarian of Germany’s environmentalist Greens, received Communion at the opening Mass in Stuttgart, southern Germany, celebrated by local Bishop Gebhard Fürst, reported CNA Deutsch, CNA’s German-language news partner.

While Aras received the Eucharist, Sabine Foth, president of the Protestant state synod, “kept her distance ‘out of respect for the bishop,’” said the local newspaper Stuttgarter Nachrichten.

CNA Deutsch contacted the Diocese of Rottenburg-Stuttgart for comment but had not received a response at the time of publication. At least one Protestant politician did receive Communion at a later date.

I’m surprised it was given.
I’m surprised they wanted to receive.
I’m glad Nancy Pelosi wasn’t invited.

Does this mean the Muslims are now apostate?

“A Muslim politician and at least one Protestant politician have received Communion at Masses celebrated by bishops during a multi-day Catholic event in Germany.”

Why are Muslims and non-Catholic protestant members receiving Catholic communion?

“The Catholic Church has a variety of rules and guidelines about who can receive Communion. For example, only baptized Catholics are eligible to receive Communion.”

German “catholic” prelates haven’t been Christian for years.

No serious and faithful Protestant or Muslim would do that, and no serious and faithful Catholic bishop would allow them. It’s a matter of personal integrity and mutual respect, which are lacking here. The Eucharist is not a warm, fuzzy game. If anyone should know that, it would be the bishop.

Why would they even want it? That sacrament is not likely to mean very much to two non Catholics. Some people just can’t handle looking at others and figure they must be ‘missing out’ on something big. Some areas of the Church have become too weak to just say “NO, you’re not Catholic, so you can’t have it. End of discussion!”

Untrue. Orthodox Christians in good standing who believe in the real presence are able to receive Communion from a Catholic. That being said, most Orthodox bishops will advise their members against receiving communion from Catholics unless no Orthodox communion is available.

Why do Catholics hate non-Catholics so? How "exclusionary" and "discriminatory"!

/mordant sarcasm

Bishop Gebhard Fürst made a mistake by giving communion to a non-Catholic protestant and a non-Catholic saracen. The mistake cannot be fixed with a million dollar donation to a soup kitchen. The mistake must be fixed by Furst’s penance of bread and water every other day for three years. Wow. Bishops should know this, since the mistake is repeated daily around the world.

A Muslim, almost certainly not. A Protestant? Why would he care, they don't believe in the Eucharist, it's just a cracker and some grape juice. Receiving Communion means very little to him.

The Bishop shouldn't allow them, but does the Bishop even know who they were? Bishops don't offer Masses to a congregation that often, so it's not like your local priest who recognizes the couple hundred people he sees every week. A Bishop might offer a Mass at a particular congregation once or twice a year. He'll likely recognize almost no one besides the diocese priests and his staff. And Catholics don't pull a background check every time someone presents for Communion, so unless the Bishop knew or had reason to believe these guys weren't Catholic, there's no reason he would deny them Communion. And, the German Bishops are generally excessively liberal, so they likely wouldn't care anyway. They'd probably like/come up with the idea, to promote "inter-faith dialogue"...

The German Catholic Church is not Catholic and should be sued for trademark infringement.

” A Protestant? Why would he care, they don’t believe in the Eucharist, it’s just a cracker and some grape juice. Receiving Communion means very little to him.”

Nonsense. It’s sacred to most Protestants, although plenty disagree with the concept of transfiguration. That depends on the beliefs of the denomination — and even the local church and person.

For example, plenty of conservative Anglican churches teach transfiguration.

(For the record, I’m a cradle Catholic (my late brother was a bishop) that has been church shopping now for several years due to my local priest being an anti-white communist who prefers Spanish to English and loves gays and Democrats.)

Sorry, early and no coffee.

“Transfiguration” = “transubstantiation”.

Having grown up in the Protestant church, and having received communion in that church several times, I can tell you, you are flat out wrong.

“Orthodox Christians in good standing who believe in the real presence are able to receive Communion from a Catholic.”

As said by Father Peter Sharpe of the Archdiocese of Fargo:

“When you say Amen and receive Communion at Mass, you are publicly declaring that you believe all that the Catholic Church teaches and believes. Further, you are acknowledging that you are trying to live as the Catholic Church expects. So if you don’t believe all that the Catholic Church believes or aren’t living according to her standards, when you receive Communion, it would be like you are publicly saying a lie, which of course you wouldn’t want to do.”

https://fargodiocese.net/news/why-arent-non-catholic-but-baptized-christians-not-to-receive-the-eucharist

“Whereas many Protestant denominations allow Christians who are not members of their denominations to receive communion in their services, the Catholic Church does not.”

https://adoremus.org/2020/11/q-why-doesnt-the-catholic-church-share-communion-with-non-catholics/

And it goes the other way, also, according to what I have found:

“According to the Code of Canon Law, receiving communion in a Protestant church is generally not permissible. According to canon 844, “Catholic ministers may licitly administer the sacraments to Catholic members of the Christian faithful only and, likewise, the latter may licitly receive the sacraments only from Catholic ministers.” The key term here is licit. If a Catholic receives communion from a Protestant minister, it is generally considered “illicit” or unlawful.”

https://uscatholic.org/articles/201108/can-a-catholic-receive-communion-in-a-protestant-church/

There appears to be a mixed bag on this subject.
