“Call no man father.”
My dad was a Baptist minister in a small rural town, and he struck up a friendship with the RC priest in town. We called the priest “Mister George” or “Reverend George”, and the priest totally understood. Some of his parishioners didn’t, but he did.
They discussed theology often over 15 years, but AFAIK Rev. George never got saved. Super nice man.
Phil 2:12 "work out your own salvation with fear and trembling."Salvation, in its fullness, is God’s new creation. To save us, He remakes us in His likeness — a lifelong process.
Because God loved us so much, He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to save us from such a terrible fate. The life, death and resurrection of Jesus offer us, through the forgiveness of our sins, escape from eternal punishment.
But that’s not all. He also reconciles us to God, opening the door to a full restoration of our relationship with Him.
1 John 5
13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.John says we can have “confidence,” 1 John 3:22 says, “. . . And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.14 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:
15 And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.
1 John 1
5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.Let's repeat a basic Bible lesson:6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:
7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
13But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. |
James 2:17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. -- it's never faith ALONE. Note that
so, take it up with Jesus who says the above.
=====
George would have grown in God's love and grace and as Jesus said was saved and endured to the end - far better than some Baptists who just call out Lord, Lord and are not saved
