regarding Adventists’ living longer than other Americans.

This is true - they live on average 5 to 10 years longer than other Americans of the same ethnicity.

They do live shorter than Sardinians or Japanese though.

The generic American diet has less fruit and vegetables and much less fibre than it ought to have.

however vegetarianism and veganism isn’t the only secret to longevity - or else the Hindus would live to 120 years (a full lifespan according to the Atharva-Veda).

The secret to living longer seems to be (SEEMS)
1. Having a lower proportion of meat - not zero, but not the quantities some Americans eat
2. Having much of that protein being from fish
3. having a lot of greens - salads, seaweed (Japanese) etc.
4. having a little alcohol.
5. lower stress levels (Sardinian — perhaps not the Japanese)

Pure vegetarianism or veganism isn’t for humans (B12 deficiency), but mostly vegetarian seems to be the right diet for health and longevity. Of course none of that can replace the taste of bacon!

So - the SDAs follow Word of Wisdom II.

What's for dinner?

D&C 49:18-19

18 And whoso forbiddeth to abstain from meats, that man should not eat the same, is not ordained of God;
19 For, behold, the beasts of the field and the fowls of the air, and that which cometh of the earth, is ordained for the use of man for food and for raiment, and that he might have in
abundance.

D&C 89:12-13

12 Yea, flesh also of beasts and of the fowls of the air, I, the Lord, have ordained for the use of man with thanksgiving; nevertheless they are to be used sparingly;
13 And it is pleasing unto me that they should not be used, only in times of winter, or of cold, or famine.

It must be tough; being a Mormon.   Having to face Scripture that state two oppossing ideas and somehow managing to believe BOTH of them!  It's no WONDER that Utah leads in Prozac usage!
