Well, when God is the terrifying judge who sentences even his children to thousands of years of suffering in Purgatory, and Mary is the one who gets you out of that suffering...
It’s like a two-tiered salvation system. Christ gets you out of Hell, but Mary gets you out of Purgatory.
Heck, there’s a Catholic prayer to Mary she is appealed to for mercy by the person praying from “Jesus, my Judge”.
Catholics aren’t even presented with and hence don’t see Him as Jesus as a loving, compassionate Savior, the GOOD shepherd. They see Him as a demanding, capricious judge who one needs to grovel to in order to beg forgiveness.
Just looking at the tone of so many Catholic prayers shows that.
