Catholics are always baptized as the Bible’s words of Jesus instructions while pouring water three times of the person being baptized.
“Go therefore and baptize all people in the name of the FATHER and of the SON and of the HOLY SPIRIT.” Amen
Most Protestant Churches use this form of baptism, and the Catholic Church accepts that Baptism as valid.
But the words need to include the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Is that how you were baptized?
Yet pouring water over someone's head is not New Testament baptism.
The new believer in Christ was totally immersed in water....hence the term baptize.
907 baptízō properly, "submerge" (Souter); hence, baptize, to immerse (literally, "dip under"). 907 (baptízō) implies submersion ("immersion"), in contrast to 472 /antéxomai ("sprinkle").
When I became a follower of Christ I was totally immersed. The words of the pastor just before being baptized were, "I baptize you, my brother in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost."
Of course. But i was responding to mrs D who stated being baptized makes me in some sense a catholic. I was baptized into Christ not the Roman church and really dont care one way or the other if it recognizes my baptism as valid. I am in no sense a Roman or any other kind of catholic.
Scripture does not specify pouring water three times.
