Or they obeyed because as servants they were supposed to obey.
Or they didn’t “obey” Mary, but their cooperation is characterized by you as obedience.
Or they decided on their own recognizance that it was their only option.
Or they looked to Christ and God moved them to obey Him.
So much we do not know.
Both Mary and Her Son were only invited guests to the wedding. The servants, in their servile duties, had no obligation to obey either of them.
Again, who was it who told (not asked) the waiters to do what He says?
The situation isn’t hard to figure out. There is no wine at the wedding which would be an embarrassing situation for the hosts. The servants hear someone tell them there is a solution. They acted out of desperation.....not obedience.
Neither the chief steward nor the bridegroom were aware of Mary’s order to the waiters and the subsequent miracle.
