Should We Still Keep The Commandments?
If you are skeptical because of past experiences with religion, understand that religion is not the answera relationship with Christ is. There is a clear difference.
Religion says, I have to follow rules. A relationship with Christ says, I want to follow His plan for my life.
Religion says, I have to go to church. A relationship with Christ says, I want to position myself to learn more, worship Him and benefit from fellowship.
Religion offers a set of rituals; a relationship with Jesus offers a guiding light.
Religion is mans attempt to find God; relationship assures us of His presence.
Many lose sight of purpose because they have religion and not a true relationship with Christ. They may know Scripture but they often do not apply it to their lives. As a result, their relationship with God is cold and distant.
A fatal statement, yet so common is, I know what Gods Word says, but
For example: I know that I shouldnt watch certain movies or television programs, but I enjoy then. I know that I shouldnt date her, but shes very attractive. I know that I shouldnt go there, but everyone is doing it. I know what the Bible says, but it doesnt apply now. I know that I need to go to church, pray, and read Gods Word, but Im too busy.

Darned good advice!
Given to WHOM??
I am a Gentile; to whom a letter of instruction was written in Acts Chapter 5.
Oh?
Is THAT in the bible?
As I've said many times before the Law cannot save. That is not its job. It can only condemn. Nevertheless the Law is perfect (as we must become).
It appears that you are correct.
If ye love Me keep my commandments. My Bible has it.
Then why is it being stressed so much in this thread?
Are we to understand be are SAVED by Grace; but KEPT by Works?
LOL. We are saved by Grace. We should be inspired to please God by following all that is in our knowledge and willpower that will please Him. Paul said "I die daily". He hungered to do more to please God and was less influenced by the charms of this world.
All the commandments, every single one of them, are rolled up into just two commandments: 1) Love God with all your heart, soul and mind; and 2) Love your neighbor as yourself.
So, yes, we are to keep the commandments. Whether we do that is another issue. That is why we have the grace of God.
Nope, because then salvation would be dependent on our efforts and it's not our efforts (or works if you prefer) but God's grace.
When we are born again, we are made new creatures in Christ, died to sin and the Law, and have been transferred into the kingdom of the Son He loves.
God doesn't disown us every time we don't meet standards we have set up for ourselves that we think God has for us.
People have this kind of mentality that if we reach a certain level of spirituality then we are good to go, but EVERYTHING about us is tainted by sin and cannot even come close to God's holy standards and level of holiness.
That we can somehow live a life that is acceptable to Him is an illusion.
And even if we could from this second on, live a life as perfect as Jesus did, it wouldn't be enough because it's already far too late.
One sin is all that it takes to damn us for eternity and the penalty for that sin is death. Doesn't matter if the rest of our lives are perfect. We already aren't and are disqualified for being able to stand in God's presence.
So, yes, we are to keep the commandments. Whether we do that is another issue. That is why we have the grace of God.
That's right. If you do those two, the rest will automatically happen.
But the Law was given to us to show us what we do that is NOT loving God our our neighbor with our whole heart.
If we do any of those things, that is not love.
Very simple and basic, but I never saw it in that light before.
Your first question is unclear, but we understand Christians have Christ as their first love (used in Rv. 2), which results in obedience flowing out from that relationship, and which evidential fruit of obedience, "thing that accompany salvation" (Heb. 6:9) testifies to them possessing eternal life. 1John provides revelation and criteria by which one may know they presently possess eternal life. (1Jn. 5:13)
Are you saying that the loss of this love has no impact on their salvation?
No, it ultimately can have, as seen by my statement that "Scripture also warns of departing from the living, loving God by unbelief, and thus impenitent sinning. (Heb. 3:[6],12; 10:38,39)"
Mark 2:28 So the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath. Jesus declares His affiliation with the Sabbath. Luke 4:16 And He came to Nazareth where He had been brought up. And as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day and stood up to read. Jesus kept the Sabbath! Acts 17:2 And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three Sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures. This is three consecutive weeks on the Sabbath for those taking note. Matthew 24:20 "But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the Sabbath day". This is an event that took place years after the crucifixion. Sounds like it is still valid to me. The Law that God wrote Himself (Ex. 24:12) and spoke Himself (Deut. 4:12,13). You can't go wrong by following Gods own Words, speech or example while on earth. There is NO excuse in the day of judgment. REMEMBER the Sabbath day. The only one with remember in it.
All of which utterly fail to produce any command ever given under the New Covenant to the church to keep the 7th day Sabbath. The Lord also enjoined general obedience to the Scribes and Pharisees, (Mt. 23:2) and kept OT feasts, none of which is binding under the New Covenant, which is distinctively declared to be Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt.." (Jer. 31:32),
Thus akin to Catholics who assume NT Christians did what is nowhere recorded, you assert that the Holy Spirit would fail to record even one example of a NT church (as a church) specifically keeping the 7th day, despite this being such an important practice, while only showing them specifically meeting on the first day, and treating the sabbath as part of the ceremonial law which Christians are not bound to keep. Based upon your failure to rightly divide the word of Truth you and your elitist cult might as well argue that Christians must be circumcised and keep the feasts to be saved.
Elsie,
It’s written, Ezekiel 46:1,
Thus says the Lord GOD: The gate of the inner court that faces east shall be shut on the six working days, but on the Sabbath day it shall be opened, and on the day of the new moon it shall be opened.
Elsie, What does Rome say a new moon day is, if it isn’t one of His 6 working days or His Sabbath?
According to Scripture, the day of the new moon isn’t one of His 6 work days or Sabbath.
How does Rome square the Creator’s calendar template having another day, that their calendar doesn’t?
Would it shock Rome that the Word was Made Flesh on one of those days that isn’t one of the Father’s 6 work days or Sabbath?
Maybe that’s why everybody goes with Rome’s truth involving false days like December 25, January 1st, Good Friday, Holy Saturday and Easter Sunday.
They don’t realize the Father has a day every month that isn’t part of His 6 work days or Sabbath.
And it’s that day that points to the Word Made Flesh.
Which is why the world is deceived by satan. Daniel predicted times and laws would change. And darn if Rome isn’t in the middle of it..
For eyes to see..
Please demonstrate where The Lord’s Prayer makes any internal reference to Christianity.
The Sabbath was never part of the ceremonial law. There were additional sabbaths that were but the 7th day Sabbath commemorating Creation was never part of that. The 7th day Sabbath is part of the TEN (count them) COMMANDMENTS (not suggestions).
Where is the LAW stating the first day of the week must be kept holy?
