have know Catholics just like you for years...
I have always called them protestants, because that is exactly what they are.
One thing is for sure they certainly aren’t Catholic.

That's one reason so many nominal Catholics are pro-contraception, pro-gay-marriage, pro divorce/remarriage, etc. Living like other Americans, voting like other Americans (within a 2% margin plus or minus), reading Scripture by their own lights and doing what they think best.
