Never really followed him much (I was broke) , but he did give me the Word ...
Too late for that. He lead thousands into apostasy.
Well, he sure was off on a lot of stuff.......
I never realized how bad it was and what impact he had on upcoming generations of preachers and televangelists.
Thank God there’s old standby’s still available like Tozer.

Hope he knew The Lord Jesus Christ and was known by Him.
(Early on, I confused the Crystal Cathedral with Mormonism. Never did get fully straightened out on the differences and don’t want to now.)
After watching him a few times, I realized he was not someone I should listen to. I remember reading the book about his daughter’s accident. I also read the 2 books about Tara Nason who suffered a severe brain injury. Her dad worked with Schuller back then. I think he led many people astray.
Wow! You are right to be concerned about his eternal destination. Sounds extremely New Agey to me.
I never paid any attention to the man, as he seemed smarmy to me, but not one of those beliefs will get you within shouting distance of glory.
Thank you for listing just some of Schuller's heretical teachings. Sadly, as you have mentioned he has led countless millions to Hell with him and left a bitter legacy of a next generation of false teachers, some of whom you arightly named, who are following in Schuller's teachings and foot steps and exponentially leading countless millions more to Hell.
The man was a charlatan, period.
First was that the bulletin had a list of classes and meetings during the week. . . and not one of them was about God or Jesus or the Bible.
They listed things like
Second was the name dropping in his sermons. . . which were always about who he knew and the celebrities he was with and preached to. "When I was talking to John Wayne yesterday . . . " "Governor so-and-so called me for advice. . . " etc.
The third thing was both appalling and amusing. I had always been taught to not brag about my giving of "alms" "Don't let your left hand know when your right hand gives alms" and so on. At the Crystal Cathedral, literally everything is festooned with little brass plaques that are engraved with "Given to the Greater Glory of God by. . ." then the name of the donor. Every section of side walk and pathway, every window frame, every pew seat, doorway, etc., has a little brass plaque with that engraving. . . even the door in the stalls in the bathrooms. They were so ubiquitous that I, facetiously lifted the seat on the toilet and, SO HELP ME, on the bottom of the toilet seat there was a little brass plaque saying "Given to the Greater. . . " I could not stop laughing for quite some time.
I am sorry he is dead and I pray for his soul. . . and for his family. But I did not find Christ or God anywhere near the Crystal Cathedral. . . except in the people who worshiped there. They were seeking and sometimes finding.
The Christmas pageants were spectacular. . . but I found the ones put on by the children in a small church much more moving than Schuller's flying angels and all his wisemen in fancy costumes riding live elephants and camels.
I am not a follower but amazed at how many people on this thread sit on God’s thrown and judge. Well done. Pat yourself on the back.
“Old Floatie”
Sorry to hear this news. It sounds like his last few years were not very good.
“I would rather attempt something GREAT and fail than do nothing and succeed.” — Robert Schuller
From what I have read about him, I judge he was, indeed, a righteous man.
He was a horrible person. (A neighbor in Hawaii)
A well-known, successful preacher dies and the “great” Christians look at it as cause to celebrate and trash him some more, dancing on his grave. This kind of thing gives people a very bad image of Christians.
Robert Schuller: I hope you don't preach this, I hope you don't preach this!
MH: What, the texts?
RS: No, what you just spoke into the microphone right now. I hope you don't because you could do a lot of damage to a lot of beautiful people. But maybe if you preach it, maybe you will demonstrate your knowledge of human relationships and maybe you'll demonstrate a sensitivity of caring about these pathetic, pathetic people that are so lost in pain and suffering because of their sinful condition, and I think you'd want to save them. I think you'd want to bring them to Jesus. And so if you preach that text, oh man, I sure hope you give it the kind of interpretation that I do or, I'll tell you, you'll drive them farther away and they'll be madder than hell at you and they'll turn the Bible off, and they'll switch you off, and they'll turn on the rock music and Madonna. Just because it's in the Bible doesn't mean you should preach it. And if you do, you have to say, "Who's listening to me? Will they understand? And will the love of Jesus come through my words and through my message; through my personality. Will it come through my spirit? Will I come across as a humble person or will I come across as a person who's kind of mean and know-it-all: I've got the answers and when people like Schuller come along, they're heretics! Be careful, it is so difficult to preach some of those texts and not come across as lacking humility...
