Actually we read the entire passage and compare it to ALL of scripture to be able to put it in context. Putting it in context makes nothing void. It puts in in perspective and gives understanding. Catholic interpretation leaves conflicts within scripture. The Jesus you portray has sinned by eating blood.

Then Jesus said to them: Amen, amen I say unto you: Except you eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, you shall not have life in you. He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath everlasting life: and I will raise him up in the last day. (John 6:54-55)
