Does Joyce Meyers teach a “feel good” Gospel and Christianity – or am I just misinformed?

This is just an excerpt from our article here http://thewordonthewordoffaithinfoblog.com/2013/02/06/does-joyce-meyers-teach-a-feel-good-gospel-and-christianity-or-am-i-just-misinformed/

Does Joyce Meyers teach a “feel good” Gospel and Christianity – or am I just misinformed?

I got notice of this thread on ChristianForums.com via a pingback to our groublog when this article was posted there.

I thought since this thread about dreams and idols turned into a debate about Joyce Meyers and comments were made like she is “anything but a feel good preacher” and “the last thing Joyce Meyers teaches is feel good Christianity”,, I would chime in a post some resources from our groupblog concerning Meyers and her teachings here.

I mean come on,, how can anyone say Meyers does not teach a “feel good” gospel or Christianity? She is famous because of her TV show called “Enjoying Everyday Life”. How is that not equivalent to a feel good message? And yes I have watched many hours of her program and know the title of her show sums up most of the individual show topics. She has written around 70 books and almost all of them have “feel good” titles and topic matter that does not focus on theology or the Gospel of Jesus Christ at all – but rather basically how to “enjoy everyday life”. How is that not “feel good”? And these books are not put in the theology sections even in Christian books stores, they go to the self-help section. How does self-help not equate to feel good and a feel good message? And if you will look inside Meyers books you will see they are even categorized by the Library Of Congress as “Self Help”. How does this not relate to “feel good”?

The thread started with a pretty sincere post asking…

Our Groupblog is mostly ex-Word of Faithers posting about WoF teachers and teachings. We have around 50 ex-WoF testimonies on our Testimony Page that many of those who have came out, or are coming out of the WoF movement say have been very helpful to them.

If they are televangelists, they are not teaching the Gospel. That’s how they keep the bucks rolling in. If they dared teach the Gospel unadulterated, they wouldn’t have the bucksvrolling in.

IMHO ... prayer to bring us closer to God and give our life to glorify God transcends a mere feeling good. It brings a great sense of peace and joy.

Timothy 2:11-12, “Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.”

Thus I would not sit under her teaching.

Several years ago when I was laid up for months, I would watch Meyers, Osteen and one or two others for some uplifting. In that limited situation, these tv personalities served what I thought was a good purpose. At the time, I needed the image of a caring compassionate God. But I wouldn’t buy their wares, and I don’t subscribe wholeheartedly to their teachings.

God is benevolent, but we have to be mindful that sin has its consequences. Forgetting that point is how we’ve ended up with Obama.

Rhetorically, what’s wrong with feeling good about being Christian?

Yes, She does. Not to mention the apostate Pentecostalism and her being a “Pastor”.

There is nothing wrong with feeling good about being a Christian, but that’s not the Gospel.

Yes, it’s great that God has saved mankind, through the blood of Jesus Christ and, all I have to do to be saved is to confess my sins and accept Christ. But there is also the matter of, when you do wrong, you are supposed to make amends to the person you have wronged. I have never heard these people talk about that, never.

The problem is that with Meyers, et. al. they offer Christianity as a means or way to feel good, to be successful in life. One does not come to Christ for what they can get; except for forgiveness of sin.

The Christian is promised peace-peace with God. All that will live godly will suffer persecution. The key is, for what is the Gospel being offered? Is one aware of their sin before God, and that knowledge is a cause of alarm, for they see it is an offense to God, which will result in such a terrible judgment that they also know they cannot bear to endure it. They also are aware of the neglect of their duty to worship God, and they understand this to be a serious matter.

Unbelievers, on the other hnad, do not conider their neglect of true worship as anything important as a violation of a command of God; none of which they take seriously anyway.

Meyers (and others of her stripe) offers Christianity as a means to get goodies from God, not as the only way a sinner in desparate need of a savior can obtain frogiveness and removal of their sin. The Gospel is God's means of removing a person from a state of being God's enemy to becoming one of God's redeemed children. The Gospel is the only way to restore the right relationship with God that sin destroyed. It is not simply a way for you to feel better about yourself.

She is not a true Christian but is of them that preach a false gospel and mocks the Scriptures as so many do today. Not to mention she makes a lot of money at it as so many false prophets do also.

Just, wow.

I haven’t listened to Joyce in quite a few years, but I used to.
There are MANY aspects of the ‘Christian’ life folks. Yes, preaching the gospel is essential, but okay, after you accept Christ, then what? You still have to deal with life throwing everything at you. That’s Joyce’s ministry.

You don’t need a transmission expert if you have exhaust problems with your car. There are different types of ministry.

I’m surprised at how many are willing to join a ‘mob’ over this stuff.

I agree with you. What Joyce is doing on a daily basis is very similar to the teaching one hears at a Women of Faith conference or other similar gathering. I don’t hear anyone criticizing Patsy Clairmont.
Joyce relates the Bible to everyday life; her teaching on accepting yourself as God made you is hilarious but it gets the point across.
Paul never said women couldn’t teach women, nor did he say we couldn’t laugh during the course of that learning.

I have said same to God, Jesus and Mother Mary in prayers “This isn’t working. How does this advance your plan” but never received a directive to change to what makes people feel good. In fact, the answers I have received are along the lines of “most people are evil” and “find God in solitude” and “having to be distracted all the time by busy-ness and other people keeps you from God”
