We will be judged on whether we accepted the finished work of Christ for our salvation. Our righteousness. Period. If we did not, we will be judged by our works for righteousness, which will automatically be burned up, because our works cannot match Christ's finished work for us. THis judgement comes after Christ's second coming. This is the "my gospel" that condemns those who rejected it. Those who are saved won't be part of this judgement. We've already been judged, declared ourselves guilty, thrown ourselves on the mercy of Christ's death in our stead, and declared freely saved, because Christ paid the penalty for our sins. This is the "my gospel" that saves those who accept it. We are either alive because we have accepted the atoning blood of Christ, or we are dead in our sins. THe judgement seat of Christ is for believer's works. As workmen for Christ. See 2 Tim. 2:15, and 2 Cor. 5:14-21. It is not for our salvation. That has already been settled, when a person accepts Christ's payment for their sins. It happens once, while we are alive. Once we die, it is too late to accept it.

If a person has to HOPE to have eternal life in heaven, then that person has NOT accepted the finished work of Christ. And is depending on his own works for righteousness. Or his plus Christ. Which will get that person exactly nowhere before God.

It's like showing up with with a diary of all you've done, and Christ standing on the other side of the scale. The scale will never even come close to balancing.

So, what is the "my gospel" that Paul says God will use to judge men's secrets by Jesus Christ?

"Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you THE GOSPEL which I PREACHED unto you, which also YE HAVE RECEIVED, and wherein YE STAND; by which also YE ARE SAVED, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that CHRIST DIED FOR OUR SINS according to the scriptures; and that HE WAS BURIED, and that HE ROSE AGAIN the third day according to the scriptures." 1 Cor. 15:1-4.

"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God; not of works, lest any man should boast." Eph. 2:8,9.

There is no "hoping" to it. A person is either saved or they aren't. Not hope to be, am. Not because of what I did, didn't do, or hope to do, but what He did.

Salvation is possible only because of the life, death and resurrection of Jesus. Without Him there is no hope for anyone as no one can live the law perfectly.

Christ has paid the penalty for sin, death, eternal separation from God. There is nothing man can do to overcome the separation from God caused by sin. I believe that Christ gave Himself freely and freely I receive, but once I receive, I am called to obey, to love, to be Christ’s light.

One is saved if one believes in Jesus, but belief is not a one time declaration of the so called “Sinner’s prayer”.

The NT is filled with exhortations to stand fast, hold firm, obey, do, follow etc...Eternal life is not automatic based on a statement that for some amounts to little more than lip service.

I do believe in the finished work of Christ, but I do not believe that His sacrifice is a stay out of hell free card. I do believe that faith leads us to heaven, but I believe that works or deeds, whichever word one chooses, testify for the truth of our faith. Works done for love of Christ, to the glory of God are the fruits of true faith

Matthew Chapter 7
15“Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. 16By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17Likewise every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. 19Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.

21“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’ 23Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’

The Wise and Foolish Builders

24“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”

If faith in Jesus is the foundation of our lives, the works we do are the house we build which will endure. But, like in the parable of the talents, God has given us this gift, undeserved and we will have to account for how we used it. Did we follow Christ and proclaim Him to others through our acts of kindness, charity and love? Did our actions make Him known to others or alienate others from Him? Did we hide His light under a bushel or let it shine before all men so they may know His glory?

Those who tell Christians that they have nothing more to do that to say “I accept Jesus as my personal Lord and Savior” are misleading them to believe that they may live life as THEY wish without worry of losing salvation. Jesus many, many times tells us what we must do.

King James Bible (Cambridge Ed.)

Revelation 3:1 “To the angel of the church in Sardis write: These are the words of him who holds the seven spirits of God and the seven stars. I know your deeds; you have a reputation of being alive, but you are dead.

Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die: for I have not found thy works perfect before God.

Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee.

Thou hast a few names even in Sardis which have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with me in white: for they are worthy.

He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.

The church is warned to strengthen what remains of their faith because their works are not perfect. They are warned that some have soiled their garments, the garments they put on when they accepted Christ, and those who have are in danger of having their names blotted out of the book of life.

Peter warns us in his second letter:

For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.

If a person has to HOPE to have eternal life in heaven, then that person has NOT accepted the finished work of Christ. And is depending on his own works for righteousness. Or his plus Christ. Which will get that person exactly nowhere before God.

Hope, google it in your concordance, it is used many times.

Jesus is our Hope, without Him there is not salvation.
