LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Horror stories about Dr. Kermit Gosnell's Philadelphia abortion clinic are beginning to come to light after he was charged with eight counts of murder. Gosnell is accused of killing seven newborn babies with scissors and killing a 41-year-old refugee after a botched abortion in connection with his clinic. .

One former patient of Gosnell's claims that in 2001, she went to procure an abortion to find dazed women sitting on blood-stained recliners in the waiting room. She changed her mind, only to have the doctor forcibly hold her down by tying her hands and given medication against her will. ..
Prosecutors believe Gosnell frequently delivered late-term babies alive at his clinic, and then severed their spines with scissors. The fetal bodies, along with staff lunches were stored in refrigerators at the filthy facility. Tiny baby feet, prosecutors said, were discovered in specimen jars, lined up in a macabre collection.

<><> “Obama's $160 million in federal funds to PA, will pay for insurance plans that cover any legal abortion,” said Douglas Johnson, legislative director for the National RtL Committee. “This is just the first proof of the phoniness of President Obama’s assurances that federal funds would not subsidize abortion — but it will not be the last.”

<><> One of Obama’s first legislative achievements was to include a provision, within the 2009-2010 military budget, prosecuting "pastors who preach hatred." CASE IN POINT Let’s say your pastor preaches on Romans 1st chapter which denounces homosexuality. Someone happens to walk in during the sermon. Then he/she commits a crime against someone who happens to be a homosexual. Not only is the bad guy prosecuted, but the preacher can be prosecuted as well.

In February 2004, US Senate candidate Barack Obama's wife, Michelle, sent a fund-raising letter with the "alarming news" that "right-wing politicians" had passed a law (prohibiting doctors from stabbing half-born babies in the neck with scissors, suctioning out their brains and crushing their skulls).

Michelle Obama called partial-birth abortion "a legitimate medical procedure. " She urged supporters to pay $150 to attend a fund-raising luncheon for her husband, who she promised would fight against "cynical ploy[s]" to stop it.

BACKGROUND Legislation was presented on the federal level and in various states called the Born Alive Infants Protection Act. It stated all live-born babies were guaranteed the same constitutional right to equal protection, whether or not they were wanted. BAIPA sailed through the U.S. Senate by unanimous vote. Even Sens. Clinton, Kennedy and Kerry agreed a mother's right to "choose" stopped at her baby's delivery. The bill also passed overwhelmingly in the House. NARAL went neutral on it. Abortion enthusiasts publicly agreed that fighting BAIPA would appear extreme. President Bush signed BAIPA into law in 2002.

But in Illinois, the state version of BAIPA repeatedly failed, thanks in large part to then-state Sen. Barack Obama. Obama worried aloud that legislation protecting live aborted babies might infringe on women's rights or abortionists' rights.

In 2003, as chairman of the next Senate committee to which BAIPA was sent, Obama stopped it from even getting a hearing, shelving it to die much like babies were still being shelved to die in Illinois hospitals and abortion clinics.

I'm glad I moved from the US to Poland last year

After the fall of communism Poland outlawed abortion in nearly all circumstances. As a result, annual reported abortions have fallen from about 130,000 per year in the mid 1980s to about 160 per year in 1999-2004. Poland is widely criticized by abortion proponents for its current policy

Abortion in Poland is banned except in the following three circumstances.

1. When the woman's life or health is endangered by the continuation of pregnancy,
2. When the pregnancy is a result of a criminal act (rape), or
3. When the fetus is seriously malformed

I know folks who are working to revoke all three of these options. I personally do not know what to think of case 1 except that there are many cases where the doctor is wrong -- I would rather leave that difficult choice to the mother rather than me making it up for her, but case 2 is adding a crime on top of a crime and case 3 is eugenics, selective breeding and wrong. Cases 2 and 3 I stridently support banning. Case 1 I would leave to the mother.

BUT -- note that Poland has only 536 abortions in 2008 which would be for these 3 cases, so how many abortions are really because the mother is in danger as opposed to cases 2 and 3?

In comparison, in Poland in 20008, there were 414,000 live births and 536 abortions (for all residents whether inside or outside the country, 0.1% -- 30 took place outside the country), while in the UK for 794,383 live births, there were 215,975 abortions -- 30%

Gosnell made two “fatal” technical errors: everyone knows you have to STAB the baby in the SKULL with the scissors the second BEFORE the baby slips out of the birth canal, you don’t SEVER the SPINE the second AFTER the baby slips out.

But why harass this guy for such technicalities? Doesn’t every woman deserve a dead baby if she asks for one?

Incidently I found out that N. Ireland bans killings except if the mother's life/mental/phyical health is in danger. they have out of 25,631 births in 2008, 1,173 killings (4.4%). And for women who want to do this, it's comparatively easy to go across the Irish sea to Scotland, so compare 25-30% in the UK to 4.4% and you see how many lives can be saved by even one state passing stricter laws.
