Evangelical book catalogs promote books such as Planet Earth: The Final Chapter, The Great Escape, and the Left Behind series. Bumper stickers warn us that the vehicles occupants may disappear at any moment. It is clear that there is a preoccupation with the idea of a secret rapture. Perhaps this has become more pronounced recently due to the expectation of a new millennium and the fears regarding potential Y2K problems. Perhaps psychologically people are especially receptive to the idea of an imminent, secret rapture at the present time. Additionally, many Christians are not aware that any other position relative to the second coming of Jesus Christ exists. Even in Reformed circles there are numerous people reading these books. Many of these people are unaware that this viewpoint conflicts with Scripture and Reformed Theology.

It’s hard to believe some of those questions were even asked. But more surprised at the answers of these two - should be 100%. However, not too hard to understand how the ‘wide road’ plays out.
73% (highest) of Pentecostal/Foursquare believers strongly affirm that Christ was sinless on earth, with Catholics, Lutherans and Methodists being tied at 33%, and the lowest being among Episcopalians with just 28%
81% of Pentecostal/Foursquare believers strongly agree that the Bible is totally accurate in all that it teaches , followed by 77% of Assemblies of God believers, and ending with 26% of Catholics and 22% of Episcopalians.
Excellent work, daniel1212. Thanks.
IT IS encouraging to see yet again how lofty a position the Pentecostals put GOD'S WORD IN. I'd have hoped for a higher percentage but the top percentage will do.
Clearly GOD has put HIS WORD in the top slot--heaven and earth will pass away before the slightest particle of His Word will EVER FAIL. That includes HIS EVERLASTING PROMISES TO THE CHILDREN OF ABRAHAM, ISAAC AND JACOB.
While we shamefully acknowledge these sinners, my point was not about them.
If those folks didnt support it so vehemently, it would easier to treat it for what it is...murder. But oddly, many Roman Catholic senators and representatives go against their church (much less faith) to support this travesty.
Oddly, as well, the Catholic Supreme Justices do not, as compared to their Protestant brethren. Compare the voting record of the current five Catholics (including the liberal one) to the record of Protestants on the bench over the last 100 years.
They are Roman Catholic, are they not? The Roman Catholic Church has not excommunicated them, has it? I ask sincerely, because I dont know. But if it hasnt... then why are they still communicants?
It kinda goes like this: excommunication is a formalized institutional and reluctant recognition of a person's outright declared nonChristianity. But the Church, unlike so many here vehemently claim, does not Judge anyone. If they don't demand it, they are not excommunicated. The Church understands that God Judges all. He will deal with them; those who determinedly sin and fly under the radar will still be dealt with appropriately by God.
Had we less of this, there would be no abortion clinic staffers to quibble over.
Certainly. The genocide going on in this country is absolutely heart breaking.
What went on during her life with Joseph is none of my concern..
It is evidently of great concern to a lot of RC’s.
The issue for me is that such superstitions are brazenly against Scripture which clearly speaks of Jesus’ blood brothers and sisters.
Trying to weasel out with the brazenly false appeal to “cousins” is nonsense.
My pontificating about my posting style is here:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-bloggers/2347476/posts
I’m extremely expressive and fairly naturally above average emotional in my way of being in the world. A student asked the 2nd class if I had RED BULL in my veins. I’m a fairly intense person in a lot of respects just breathing calmly.
Yet, rarely does my blood pressure, heart rate or breathing rate increase while posting.
Anyway—thanks for your calm and kind replies.
What was the Notre Dame thing? I don’t recall.
Barry was invited to give the commencement address there. Remember Alan Keyes and many others were jailed because they held a quiet protest at the time?
And yet, some RC's probably are still incredulous about how I could POSSIBLY IMAGINE TO CALL the institution
The Vatican Alice In Wonderland School Of Theology And Reality Mangling!
Go to Sam's Club and buy several cases of artificial insight--it MIGHT help!
WHEN 88% of those self labeled as Roman Catholic do
And, I don't think Nuns and Priests harranguing more dreadful hours with whacking rulers and long fingers is going to solve the problem by a long shot.
And convoluted rationalizations about farcical fantasies; !!!!TRADITIONS!!!! OF MEN and superstitions rooted in paganism are NOT going to help either.
TRASHING THE HOGWASH would be a good place to start.
RETURNING TO THE UNADULTERATED WORD OF GOD AND THAT ONLY
As the ONLY authority for the institution would be a great start.
I realize that hell will likely freeze over first.
Ahhhh And wasn’t some Christian symbol covered up?
Hideous.
We did as you asked of us, we told them the truth....they wouldn't listen..... And then we'll cry for those not there.
Heck, they LEGALIZED abortion.
And yet, while you claim that *you guys* (Protestants) staff abortion facilities, aside from the (late) Tiller, you have yet to demonstrate the religious affiliation of abortion providers.
Not only that they are (allegedly) Protestant, but that NONE are Catholic.
Fascinating.
ENDLESSLY hereon we read RC's, in their postings, who are haughty, self-righteous, arrogant, derisive etc. toward Proddy denominations as being lower than pond scum compared to the Vatican AIWSOTARM.
Yet again, the EVIDENCE indicates that RC's are no better than Methodists and HORRORS, LUTERANS . . . regarding SUCH A KEY CHRISTIAN BIBLICAL DOCTRINE!
Conditions no human being is ever capable of meeting, thus disqualifying all human beings from attaining salvation through those works making them then completely dependent on God's grace and mercy.
The Law was put in charge to lead us to Christ.
Galatians 3:21-29 21Is the law then contrary to the promises of God? Certainly not! For if a law had been given that could give life, then righteousness would indeed be by the law. 22But the Scripture imprisoned everything under sin, so that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe.
23Now before faith came, we were held captive under the law, imprisoned until the coming faith would be revealed. 24So then, the law was our guardian until Christ came, in order that we might be justified by faith. 25But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian, 26for in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith. 27For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29And if you are Christs, then you are Abrahams offspring, heirs according to promise.
There are other versions that translate it that the Law was put in charge to lead us to Christ.
This link takes you to parallel translations.
The Law was to show us what God's standards are so that we can see that we can't do it ourselves and we can see our need for HIS righteousness and that we can come to Him and ask for His mercy through faith.
NOBODY can live the Beatitudes. Even if you were perfect from here on in, it's already too late as one sin is all it takes to condemn you and make you guilty of the entire Law.
Good works cannot make up for all the sin we have committed. There is no forgiveness of sin without the shedding of blood, so we can't earn forgiveness by works, or penance, or paying it off in purgatory. Those will not get sin forgiven.
Around the water cooler a group of associates discussing abortion. All those catholic believed a woman has a right to choose what she does with her body, relating to abortion. The other half believe abortion is murder. They were Methodist, Evangelical Free, Jewish, Baptist and Christian Missionary Alliance. (I asked what their church was)
Ahhhhhh
Both were hideous.
If it were not for reading the ten commandments...and the clincher was the following verse.... “any who sin in the least of these commandments is guilty of them all.”....I would surely have believed on a scale of one to ten I was doing pretty good. But of course there is the clincher...I knew at that point I was past any hope of meeting those “conditions”.
