That was enough of a dare for me to get it, read it, see for myself and report back.

That's exactly what led me to buy Ratzinger's "need for a global authority with teeth" bilge ("Charity in Truth".)

To see for myself "whether this be so."

And as bad as I thought the encyclical was, and no doubt as bad as you thought the book on Mary worship was, both have exceeded our expectations.

The recent popes and even non-recent ones, if you read their writings, make no secret that they worship Mary and “consecrate their all” to furthering this worship. Pope John Paul found some old black Roman statue in a ditch and promptly installed it in Poland with a shrine, I believe, as the black madonna. I’m sorry, but this is absurdity
