Do you understand anything you read? I remember the quote when you used it before. It clearly depends of the Genesis account of God making man in His image and likeness and speaks of recognizing with piercing clarity that image and likeness in man. C.S. Lewis says something similar about how we would be likely to react that way were we confronted with unfallen man.
P.S. That's also why the second great commandment is "like to" the first (one reason anyway). The more you truly know and love God, the more readily you will recognize and love His image when you encounter it in your neighbor.
LOL..you are describing faith in faith
Faith is to have a foundation or we can all click our heels together and fly to Rome together.. if we Believe enough
I know you guys dont like Paul so I will quote Peter
But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and [be] ready always to [give] an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:
Did I ever indicate that it was not also a problem in the non Catholic world.. but lets face it ..Rome started it.. and it has spread like a cancer through Christianity .
The major difference is we do not canonize or pray to charlatans like Pio or nuts like Teresa
The "emergent church" which admits it is not "christian" is pushing this hard.. and it weeps over to the main line churches..
But ya know that does not excuse Catholicism that is built fully on mysticism ..from top to bottom
Some have no problem with attributing to Satan the works of God.
“THAT day of wrath, that dreadful day,
shall heaven and earth in ashes lay,
as David and the Sybil say.”
The Sybils were ancient pagan mystics that supposedly foretold the future, albeit with drugs and trances.
Why would a mass for the dead put David and A Sybil together?
Oh I know! The pagan mystics and philosophers were also sources of divine revelation per the Catholic Church. Right.
LOL, Jewish Mysticism dates back to at least Ezekiel and Babylonian and Egyptian influences in the region predate even that. Religious history did not begin on the road to Tarsus.
I do find your dismissive and prejudicial approach laughable. Your claims that "Rome" has had no contributions to anything good, but is the blame for everything bad is really moronic.
I believe Mom got her "patience" the same place you got your "ranges". :-)
That unprecedented gathering at the pope's invitation drew leaders of Jews, Buddhists, Shintoists, Muslims, Zoroastrians, Hindus, Unitarians, traditional African and Native American religions and many others. Together, under the roof of the Basilica of St. Francis, they all prayed, side by side, with Catholic, Orthodox and Protestant leaders for world peace.

(Galatians 3:8-9): 8) But even though we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you a gospel contrary to that which we have preached to you, let him be accursed.
9) As we have said before, so I say again now, if any man is preaching to you a gospel contrary to that which you received, let him be accursed.
We are not to stand and pray with those that have another god.. we are not to give them comfort or assurances in their prayer, yet the pope felt free to do this , because so much Catholicism has pagan roots
And how do YOU determine what is TRUE prayer and what is false prayer?
Does a Mormon have true prayer? Does a Muslim have true prayer? Does a Hindu have true prayer?
Just what is true prayer ?
Having some fun with children's Bibles now:
We have all become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous deeds are like a filthy cloth.
But we are all like an unclean thing, And all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags
In the book of Revelation, the bride of Christ was "given fine linen in which to clothe herself, linen bright and clean." What a contrast to filthy rags! And what does this fine linen represent? "The fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints" (Rev 19:7-9).
As per Catholic operating procedure, you guys must change what God says to justify the filthy rags that you don't want to let go of...Now compare what was really said in the verse you misquoted:
Rev 19:8 And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.
Notice there are no 'righteous acts' in the verse...The fine linen is not righteousness acts...The fine linen is the righteousness of God given freely to the saints...
Apparently you know that other Catholics won't go out and buy a bible to check you on your references...But we will...
The statement, "All our righteousness is like filthy rags", is found in the middle of a Biblical poem in Isaiah (Isa 64:4-9).
A poem??? Scripture for Catholics has been reduced to a useless poem??? The chapter talks about the restoration of Israel after the 'Lord's Day'...It's future...It's prophecy...
The saying has caused a deep struggle in many hearts.
AS it should...
Does the statement mean that it's pointless us trying to do righteous deeds? Does it mean our righteousness has no value in God's eyes? No, it doesnt.
Yes it certainly does...And it's not only pointless trying to do righteous deeds, it's a one way ticket to Hell...
The commandments are to love God with all your heart and love your neighbor as yourself...If you love your neighbor as you love yourself, you will fulfill the 10 Commandments, from your heart...You can not provide your own fine linen; your own righteousness...
I do not think I ever said that either.. The earliest catholic church helped to clarify the substance and nature of God,to confront heresy. God usee the early church to spread His word until it wandered off in the direction of Roman paganism
It was not until under Constantine paganism began to infiltrate the church of Jesus Christ..
I have never regretted being raised as a Catholic, or the work of the nuns in teaching me the basics of Christianity . I have always been grateful to God for placing me where he did...unlike so many born in the 3rd world or into an atheists family, when i was saved, I already had a knowledge of who God was and the basic Christian doctrine that we would share.
The only way to know what is a work of God and what is not is to check it against the known work of God found in the scriptures..
The Sibylline oracles have rather a complicated history, but have at it!
lol. From the mouths of babes...
Check it off like a clerk taking inventory? Or measure it against the whole of Heilsgeschichte?
AMEN!
It's not called "God's plan of salvation" for no reason.
ROTFLOL!
Ever the optimist......
And there is an even greater reason it is not called Paul's plan.
