7 When you pray, dont babble on and on as people of other religions do. They think their prayers are answered merely by repeating their words again and again. 8 Dont be like them, for your Father knows exactly what you need even before you ask him! 9 Pray like this: Our Father in heaven, --New Living Translation 7And when you pray, do not heap up phrases (multiply words, repeating the same ones over and over) as the Gentiles do, for they think they will be heard for their much speaking. [I Kings 18:25-29.] 8Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him. 9Pray, therefore, like this: 15But if you do not forgive others their trespasses [their [j]reckless and willful sins, [k]leaving them, letting them go, and [l]giving up resentment], neither will your Father forgive you your trespasses. --Amplified Pray with Simplicity 5"And when you come before God, don't turn that into a theatrical production either. All these people making a regular show out of their prayers, hoping for stardom! Do you think God sits in a box seat? 6"Here's what I want you to do: Find a quiet, secluded place so you won't be tempted to role-play before God. Just be there as simply and honestly as you can manage. The focus will shift from you to God, and you will begin to sense his grace. 7-13"The world is full of so-called prayer warriors who are prayer-ignorant. They're full of formulas and programs and advice, peddling techniques for getting what you want from God. Don't fall for that nonsense. This is your Father you are dealing with, and he knows better than you what you need. With a God like this loving you, you can pray very simply. Like this: 16-18"When you practice some appetite-denying discipline to better concentrate on God, don't make a production out of it. It might turn you into a small-time celebrity but it won't make you a saint. If you 'go into training' inwardly, act normal outwardly. Shampoo and comb your hair, brush your teeth, wash your face. God doesn't require attention-getting devices. He won't overlook what you are doing; he'll reward you well. |
Mark Kirby: O Mother of Good Counsel, I am all thine, Most Holy Mary, There is no part of my life that is not open to thee, I want to be completely transparent with thee, Praying in this way, I can be at rest, |

Your fantasy is far from my reality.

May God grant Roman Catholics eyes to see the only "sign" any Christian requires -- Christ risen from the cross.
It is also repeated several times in the Bible that the doctrines of man and the doctrines of demons are to be completely avoided and are bad for instruction.
Well, after removing the last two from consideration, the only thing left is the Bible, hence, learn from the Word alone.
Amen. Godly logic.
Oooo....oooo...I know.
Because "church fathers" and "popes" have proclaimed it as dogma and the Catholic Church believes it alone has the power to decide doctrinal truths, unerringly, under the "leading of the Holy Spirit". Of course, if these doctrines are deemed by future Church leaders to be in error, they are only "growing" in their understanding of knowledge. If doctrine contradicts God's written word, well then, "tradition" is on the same level as scripture and scripture must then be "interpreted" in light of this - it doesn't really mean what it says.
It would be easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for some to accept their particular religion is NOT the only, or even, THE true church Jesus said he would establish and lead into all truth. Too many things can crumble after that admission, and they CANNOT go there.

WELL PUT.
I’m still waiting . . . after more than 400 posts
NOT A SINGLE Roman Catholic et al has asserted that
THEY GIVE THEIR *ALL* TO GOD ALONE.
How telling is THAT!
Sobering.
Sad.
Dreadfully sad.
The Beast rises. No doubt.
Thanks for the links.
You've stated this example several times now as some sort of "proof text" that Mary was sinless. I don't see it that way. Adam and Eve were the first humans created but "sin" had already come into existence way before them when Lucifer led a third of the angels in rebellion against God. That the humans had not "sinned yet" is not to say they were "sinless". They certainly had the same capacity to sin and Satan sure didn't have to wait long after God gave them his first law - to not eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil - to deceive them into the first sin. All humans born after that - with the exception of Jesus - were born with a sin nature and were and are - by nature - sinners and at enmity with God from the womb. Mary, as a human, was under that same curse and that is why SHE needed, and confessed to her need of, a savior.
This doesn't in any way dishonor Mary. It acknowledges her humanity and ratifies the human nature Jesus himself has - yet without sin - because of his divine nature which was why he could be a sacrifice for all sins.
Adam and Eve didn’t remain sinless in the world. So, yes, it is an attribute that belongs only to Jesus.
Mary wasn’t sinless either. There’s nothing in Scripture that says she was conceived without sin, nothing that says she remained sinless, nothing that says that she remained a virgin her whole life (if that were the case, then I would be forced to agree with canonizing Joseph as a Saint).
Catholics should just get rid of the whole Mary thing as the distraction from Jesus that it is and get on with focusing on Him, and giving HIM their all.
But then, they’d be in effect admitting that the Protestants were right and we couldn’t have any of that, now could we?
DING! DING! DING!
BULL’S EYE!

You know, this drumbeat is getting very tiresome.
It reminds me of treadmills and merry-go-rounds.
Campion, I’ve always liked and respected your posts.
All this ping-ponging isn’t worth the effort at this point in the so-called “discussion.”
It would be different if the same questions or arguments weren’t repeatedly asked or made over-and-over again. If I’m not mistaken, at one time the mod called that “spamming”.
Enough is enough.
The questions are repeatedly being asked because they’re repeatedly not being answered.
The questions are repeatedly being asked because they’re repeatedly not being answered.
You want to give a shot at it?
No
Does your church teach this or are you just making it up on your own...
If you won't study the scriptures, at least study your own church fathers...
The earliest church fathers said if it ain't in scripture, it ain't from God...
Additionally, the Church has NEVER suggested that the mother of God is a goddess.
Yes it has, since it first invented the fallacy...You guys just avoid using the term 'goddess'...
Every day on the way home from work, I pass a house with one of those old cast iron bath tubs planted vertically in the ground with a statue of Mary in the tub...One of these days I'll snap a picture and post it...
And these obvious Catholics apparently found no reason to construct a shrine to Jesus, nor the Cross...
INDEED AND HORRIFICALLY SO.
EMBARRASSINGLY SO.
SIGH.
Adam and Eve possessed the capacity to sin and they chose to exercise that option, forever corrupting their own nature and the nature of their offspring (which includes Mary.)
Christ, being God, possessed no capacity to sin.
BOATBUMS: This doesn't in any way dishonor Mary. It acknowledges her humanity and ratifies the human nature Jesus himself has - yet without sin - because of his divine nature which was why he could be a sacrifice for all sins.
Amen!
ping to 416. It’s late.
As well as correction...We are to correct any false doctrine with scripture...
The word of God is to be used for reproof...We are to rebuke any false notions with scripture...Just as Jesus did (ie. It is written...Have you not read)
We are to use scripture 'alone' to correct unbiblical tradition since scipture alone is God inspired (God breathed words)...
Anyway, I try. Because I have been there, I know some, but not all, of what motivates intercessory prayer to Mary. I only hope I can persuade a few to go on from there--to not be like the hermit crab who eventually grows too big for its borrowed shell, and then can never get out.
AMEN!
