Someone should tell Farakan, “the nation of islam”, and print these quotes out to be distributed in our federal prisons.

According to the literal Arabic translation of Sura 3:106, 107, on Judgment Day, only people with white faces will be saved.

Sigh. All the alleged quotations are wrong, but let's just take this one. Surah 3, Al-e-Imran, refers in this section to the Day of Judgement, when some faces will be "whitened" and some will be "blackened". That's as close as English can some to a literal rendering, so of course is the form used by Pickthal. And those with blackened faces will be in trouble...

Unfortunately, that's an idiom with which an Arab would be familiar but most of us aren't. Yusufali provides the neatest explanation, adding the parentheses:

On the Day when some faces will be (lit up with) white, and some faces will be (in the gloom of) black: ...

In other words, we're not talking about actor's make-up here, rather that God will shine on the faces of the good, but cast darkness on the faces of the bad. Pretty conventional, on the whole.

Check for yourselves at this site.
