You know, it is exactly that — the Lord’s training program for YOU. (For us moms). I learned patience, how to apologize, so much about myself and my child homeschooling. But here’s what I think — there is not a teacher who does not have those same characteristics, only you don’t SEE them in action.
It’s hard when you are new in an area. Have a great adventure.
My nephew is getting a fantastic Catholic education in NE Ohio. When the parish school closed a group of parents got together, hired teachers, and started their own school using Kolbe Academy’s curriculuum. Not only is he getting orthodox catechism, he’s getting solid math and English to boot!
Thanks for this article. Our oldest child just graduated from the local Catholic high school and our second child started there in the fall.
I have been pleased with the school although I wish the religion classes were more in depth.
It costs us more than 10% of our income to send the kids there but I can’t imagine sending a child into the den of iniquities that passes for a public high school.
Our local Catholic school has become a nightmare. We have begged to be released from our contract. We want to homeschool and are considering Catholic Heritage Curricula. Know anything about them?
I know I’ve looked at Catholic Heritage Curricula, but I can’t remember any details. Every two or three years, we review everything we’re doing, and my husband decides what changes we need to make for individual children.
For Catholic curriculum we mostly use Seton, although we’re not enrolled in their full program right now. It was just too labor-intensive for me with so many school-age children plus babies, and I’m philosophically an “unschooler,” anyway! Just as we don’t believe that exercise requires sports programs, we don’t believe that education requires institutional schooling. (No prejudice to those who choose to engage in those activities.)
I wish you the best in handling your school situation, this early in the year. I hope they have a child on the waiting list who would like your child’s position!
