From an 'ancient' commercial "Parts of the Pine Tree are edible." I wonder if you had just cook them in, would you have gotten kudos for your 'new dish being served'? LOL

LOL. It would have added some crunch to the meal.

And it was amazing to see the chipmunks come in herds as soon as we pulled out any food. They’re so friendly they would run underneath the campstove I was cooking on. Hmmm, squirrel for dinner?

I doubt it! When we were kids we used to pick the rosin drippings off the pines and chew it like gum...if the chicken tasted as bad as the "gum" UG would have had BIG pine cones lobbed at her!
