What a transparent attempt to display the RCC as chaotic and in disarray. This group is clearly not part of the RCC, having been excommunicated. How is it that the report describes them as if they are a part of it?

Me thinks there is an agenda in the writing. Looks like the “reporter” really wants to stir up controversy where none exists. As far as I can tell, the RCC is quite clear on the standing of these people: they have no standing.

It might as well have said “Patricia Fresen has won the Miss World Contest, The Nobel Peace Prize and the Gold Medal in figure skating” cause she has as much chance of being those things as she has in being a ROMAN CATHOLIC BISHOP!

Latae Sentia(sic) excommunication

That would be latae sententiae excommunication.

Can. 1329 §1 Where a number of persons conspire together to commit an offence, and accomplices are not expressly mentioned in the law or precept, if ferendae sententiae penalties were constituted for the principal offender, then the others are subject to the same penalties or to other penalties of the same or a lesser gravity.

§2 In the case of a latae sententiae penalty attached to an offence, accomplices, even though not mentioned in the law or precept, incur the same penalty if, without their assistance, the crime would not have been committed, and if the penalty is of such a nature as to be able to affect them; otherwise, they can be punished with ferendae sententiae penalties.
