Please tell Old Reggie why Christ appeared to Mary Magdalene before the Apostles in the Gospel of John. He is either writing another Dan Brown novel or wants to make a point of some kind. He doesn't accept any of the abundant references for the Papacy I've given so I am going to hand this off to a higher authority ecclesiastically. I know a Dominican can always take care of business.

St. Thomas Aquinas, pray for us...and Old Reggie.

Woah! Wait! I'm not even on the sign-up list yet. And I can't get up to get over to my copy of the Summa.

I have no clue (a) why he appeared to Magdalene first or (b)why it would matter one way or another with respect to the primacy of Peter.

I forget, are you the one who said Jesus first appeared to Peter after the resurrection? In any event your references for the Papacy have nothing to do with this particular question.

Please, no! Aquinas would have me put to death.

Aquinas.: SMT SS Q[11] A[3] Body Para. 1/2 I answer that, With regard to heretics two points must be observed: one, on their own side; the other, on the side of the Church. On their own side there is the sin, whereby they deserve not only to be separated from the Church by excommunication, but also to be severed from the world by death. For it is a much graver matter to corrupt the faith which quickens the soul, than to forge money, which supports temporal life. Wherefore if forgers of money and other evil-doers are forthwith condemned to death by the secular authority, much more reason is there for heretics, as soon as they are convicted of heresy, to be not only excommunicated but even put to death.
