The Episcopal Church's Anti-Israel Media Campaign
VirtueOnline.org ^ | Sep 6, 2006 | Dexter Van Zile

Posted on 09/07/2006 2:20:21 PM PDT by abu afak

The Episcopal Church has approximately 2 million members and 7,200 churches in the U.S. and is part of the 77-million member Anglican Communion. Because of its presence in the U.S., the relative wealth of its members, and its connections to Anglicans throughout the world, the Episcopal Church is in a strategic position to influence attitudes toward Israel on both a national and global scale. -

Sadly, the Episcopal Church is Not a trustworthy observer of the Arab-Israeli conflict. The church's leaders and constitutive bodies routinely issue one-sided statements about the Arab-Israeli conflict, and its publications portray Israel as exclusively responsible for violence in the region. Moreover, the church has provided substantial support for anti-Israel activists in both the U.S. and disputed territories. Its so-called peace activism amounts to an ad hoc anti-Israel media campaign that serves to delegitimize Israel's rightful place amongst the nations of the world.-

The Episcopal Church's antipathy toward Israel has not gone unnoticed within the denomination. Concern about the one-sided condemnations issued by church leaders, staffers and constituent bodies was raised at the denomination's General Convention held in Columbus, Ohio in June 2006, when three Bishops put forth a resolution calling on the church to apologize for its "consistently unbalanced approach to the conflict in the Middle East." An explanation accompanying the resolution asserted correctly that "virtually all General Convention resolutions concerning the Middle East - and all public policy statements by Episcopal agencies - have relentlessly criticized the state of Israel, portraying the Jewish state as an oppressor nation and the Palestinian people as victims of Israeli oppression."

A careful reading of public statements regarding the Arab-Israeli conflict confirms that indeed, the Episcopal Church has been relentless and unfair in its criticism of Israel.

Hi Abu Afak.

I don't know anything about this thread, but I do know what I know.

I am a born-again, conservative, Bible-believing Christian.
I know absolutely nothing about the Episcopal Church
and know no one who is from that religion.
I am pro-Israel.

God bless you.
Cindy

You should ask the mods. You probably posted it as news. IMO, it is news, but it ended up in the religion forum, which has different topics, israel not being among them.

I pinged one in my post to you. Simply include "admin moderator" or "religion moderator" as one of the people you're posting to.

I've never been a moderator, nor do I know who they are nor would they care about my opinion.

I have a former friend, relative that is, who was raised in an Episcopal church...He's well educated and intelligent...

He moved to a Reformed church and now a Methodist...He's a die-hard Democrat...Hates Bush passionately...Hates the religious far right...And He's anti-Israel...

He doesn't believe much of the bible...He can talk religion all day long...

But he gets real nervous when you start getting personal about Jesus Christ...

I'm sure He's not saved...I have to wonder if He's the typical Episcopalian...

I don't know anything about Methodists, either, Iscool and don't know anyone who is a Methodist.
Sorry, I can't be more helpful.

Both religious organizations fall under the umbrella of the National Council of Churches. That is all that needs to be said. Anyone who is in one of those organizations ought to follow the dollars they put in the collection plate. They will make haste to the nearest exit.

Let's see, the article says the Episcopal Church has approximately 2 million members and 7,200 churches in the U.S., the only remaining world superpower (so America matters in contemporary geopolitics). That translates out to about 278 people in every congregation.

At our church, an Evangelical outfit which is an ardent supporter of the Nation of Israel and the Jewish people as the Lord fulfills His will in their experience, we have 5000 to 6000 adults coming through every Sunday, and have been recently listed as one of the top 25 influential churches in America.

We are one of many other Israel supporting churches like this.

Within this context of cultural influence, the Israel hating Episcopalians' influence is negligible, if existent at all.

I will always be thankful to the Episcopal Church: Both as a large part of a force which I don't think America could have been founded without, and for finally helping me in discovering Orthodox Judaism.

Such knowledge can't really be hidden from the view of interested readers, and most of it is common knowledge now. I see that my former denomination is still at it. You wonder why ex-episcopalians like me all it episcopagan. While the vast majority of Third World Anglicans are very solid and godly, the ECUSA continues to go further into wackoism. One of many reasons I left was the consistent anti-Israelism of the ECUSA leadership, it turned my stomach. C.S. Lewis (may he be always blessed) is rolling in his grave at the state of the ECUSA and much of Western Anglicanism. Funny thing, 50-60 years ago, Lewis was warning of the dangers of the very things that community slid into. While there is a small godly remnant still within the ECUSA, the majority of it is pretty much off the rails into various degrees of new age paganism.

Wow I didn't realize there was such a anti-Israel / anti-Semitic slant in the Episcopal church. I knew they were soft on gays and gay marriage and soft on abortion. Now they're anti-Isreal. I guess the Episcopal church is where all the so called Demcorat "Christians" go on Sundays to feel like they REALLY are Christians. NOW I understand why most Episcopal churches are so liberal. All the Democrats are there.

He is - I was one of them for 45 years before moving to the RC church. My ECUSA....friends aren't focused on personal salvation as much as large social causes like aids, immigration and big social leftist movements.

The members of mainline ECUSA churches have been satisfied with a basdardized socialist christianity for so long that they can't comprehend, imagine or accept anything else.
