Wash.National (Episcopal) Cathedral Had A Reading From the KORAN
Five Doves ^ | June 2, 2005 | Donna Danna

Posted on 06/03/2005 10:14:27 AM PDT by NYer

"The WASHINGTON NATIONAL CATHEDRAL'S installed its new dean, one Samuel Lloyd, formerly of Trinity Church, Copley Square, Boston. The first reading (this was not billed as an ecumenical service) was from the Holy Koran! Lord have mercy, Christ have mercy, Lord have mercy." (The Washington National Cathedral is Episcopalian.)

"The following day, Sunday April 24, The Rev. Lloyd started his tenure as Dean of "America's Church" with a bang. At Lloyd's invitation, the homily was given by The Rev. Dr. George F. Regas, Rector Emeritus of All Saints Church in Pasadena, California. The service included readings from the Koran and Hebrew scriptures, and open communion. You can read what Regas had to say in his sermon. Hint. He says that Jesus is not the only way of salvation and he has some pluralistic ideas that will fire you up for sure. You can read his thoughts in today's digest."

"And to round things off at the Washington National Cathedral, VirtueOnline has learned that the moderator of America's official gay church - the Metropolitan Community Church (MCC) will install its new moderator at the Episcopal cathedral Oct. 29-30. The announcement was made by Troy D. Perry, the present moderator of the MCC."

A French expression immediately comes to mind - "de pire en pire" - meaning from bad to worse.

Please remember our protestant brethren in your prayers.

Thank you for your prayers but this has nothing to do with the reformation my friend. Wolves come in all shapes and sizes.

Thanks for the ping. That's odd -- I thought I had posted Regas' homily, or something about it, but cannot find it.

Traditional Anglican ping, continued in memory of its founder Arlin Adams.

FReepmail sionnsar if you want on or off this moderately high-volume ping list (typically 3-7 pings/day).
This list is pinged by sionnsar and newheart.

what a shame! I spent a week in DC with a friend several years ago and the National Cathedral was my favorite site in the city. Such a gorgeous church! Can't say I'm surprised though, given all the other things we've seen come out of the ECUSA.

"this has nothing to do with the reformation"

The origin of the Anglican church is not in any significant theological debate, but in the desire of a secular ruler to obtain a divorce, obtain Church lands and property, and to exercise direct ecclesiastical control. The prime minister still nominates Episcopal candidates. Parliament must vote on any act proposed by the General Synod. The king or queer is the head of the Church of England.

Cardinal John Henry Newman, perhaps the greatest Anglican theologian, helped start the Oxford Movement. Newman and a few of others started this movement to return the Anglican Church to its early roots.

Newman's attempts to link the modern Christian faith with the early Church affirmed many of the doctrines rejected in the Reformation. In the end, Newman was convinced that the first Christians professed the same beliefs practiced by the modern Catholic Church and that the Catholic Church taught with divine authority. Newman eventually concluded that the Church of England was in schism and that Rome was the only valid successor to the historical and ecclesiastical claims of the early Church.

Amen. As Paul warned...

"For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock.

Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them...

And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified." -- Acts 20:29-30;32

ECUSA does this lest there still be anyone out there who still doesn't understand that there is in this world The Church, made up of Particular Churches and then there are "ecclesial assemblies".

I haven't come across such. The nearest I know of is ECUSA Dollars. There have been discussions on a blog or two about the annual figures published by ECUSA itself.

DOwn 12%, it says here.

2003 info here. Several annual reports up through 2003 here. more. titusonenine probably had it, but the archives are hard to search. Sometime February through April, says memory.

The Episcopal "Church" has became an embarrassment to the Anglican Communion and a disgrace to Christ's Church. This is what the Leftists have done to this once great Church and what they have planned for the rest including the RCC.

I've quit the Episcopal church. A tiny sect that gets far more attention than it deserves.
