Joe Scarborough just related the following story about Sargeant Shriver:
Joe was just saying that one time Maria's brother was crying and her Dad walked over to him and he said "I know Kennedy's don't cry" and Sergeant Shriver said "That's okay son -- Shrivers do cry!"

Love that Shriver story :). That's the kind of thing I'd heard about the Shrivers, they tried to sort of live a little bit apart and do their own thing. Not entirely, of course (I've read Maria's best friend is Caroline Kennedy --who also seems to live a fairly classy life, though I deplore her politics), and obviously they maintain their Kennedy family connections. But I think the Shriver parents tried to free them of some of the negative Kennedy family pressures (as illustrated by Scarborough's anecdote) and keep them apart from some of the bad acting up that some of the male Kennedy cousins in particular engaged in, and they had a generally more positive upbringing.
