Do not post vanities in breaking news.
Thank you.

He promised that he would bow out before the election if his numbers didn't assure victory. Assure victory for whom?!

I'm sadly disappointed that so many people have taken it upon themselves to attack McClintock so viciously. McClintock is a fine conservative with a great record and does not deserve this abuse. I can understand that people don't think he can beat Arnold due to his money, fame, name recognition and backing by Wilson and other big name Republicans, etc, but this does not mean McClintock should have his name and reputation dragged through the mud. Whatever happens this election, we will still need conservatives like McClintock in California. Wish we had more like him. Free Republic Founder, Jim Robinson 9/29/03

(It's time for Arnold to stop splitting the Republican vote and step aside for the good of the party)

Gee, I don't know. Which element of Arnold's commanding lead is causing your confusion?
To: MattGarrett
It was very generous of Issa to spend his money in the recall, but I wouldn't trust him. None of these witnesses to McClintocks supposed spoiler comment have no evidence other than what they say he said.
To: MattGarrett
"stay in the race to play spoiler" Technically, he's OK. He may be staying in the race, but he isn't going to be a spoiler. Arnold will win with him in or out -- no matter. (But, ironically, McClintock's votes could help Part 1 pass, or pass more easily).
So while that may not be the "spirit" of what he claimed, he does get a ride on a technicality.
To: MattGarrett
If McClintock drops out now it could be 15% of the recall vote that doesn't vote at all !
To: MattGarrett
He'll keep both promises, if he actually made the other one--he won't be a spoiler.
To: MattGarrett
Is there any way to get a transcript of this?

I am, as of yet, not convinced that Tom's presence on the Oct. 7 ballot will spoil anything.
To: MattGarrett
Tom is what he is and at this point I think the arguing is academic. It's just not an issue any longer. Here's why I think this.
By absentee ballot, Tom has likely already received 35-40% of his votes. In the next six days he'll obtain another 5-10% by that method. In some places early voting started about a week ago. Tom has already received some of them. Even if Tom withdrew today, he would more than likely recieve 80 to 90% of the votes he would have recieved on election day, even if he hadn't withdrawn.
IMO it's pointless to talk about Tom at this point. The 1-2% of the vote that might be affected just wouldn't be worth it. And I'm not convinced more than a very few votes would be changed anyway.
All we can do now is sit back and sip some coffee and watch this shipwreck happen.
Tom has done what he thought he had to. I stridently disagree with him. He has destroyed my ability to support him in the future, but arguing about Tom at this point is a waste of time.
We're six days before the election and haven't seriously focused on Davis or Bustamante. That speaks for itself. In this election this forum did little more than provide an arena for conservatives to do battle against each other.
Yo Davis. Yo Bustamante. I guess you're welcome.
To: MattGarrett
If McClintock bows out and the Dims unload some major dirty laundry on Ahnold, who do you vote for???
To: MattGarrett
Bustamante is imploding as we speak. There is nothing to spoil. Schwarenegger and McClintock will finish 1st and 2nd.
To: MattGarrett
Gratuitous & counterproductive.
And very unsporting.

Is this a "man of his word?" Of course. Why would you doubt that?
To: MattGarrett
I was disgusted with McC's appearance on Sean Hannity's show today. Sean even joked that Tom was hosting his show.
No small ego here. It's either McClintock's way or else.
He's NOT a team player.
I'm voting for Arnold.

Radio Ad:
Hello everyone, this is Dr. James Dobson, I very rarely get involved in partisan politics, but the campaign for California governor is too important for any of us to just sit on the sidelines.
You have a wonderful candidate in Tom McClintock. He is a principled, pro-life defender of the family. Tom McClintock has the courage to stand and fight the left-wingers who have overrun the State Legislature. They have made California a laboratory for disaster for families, and it will take a strong hand to steer California back on course.
Tom McClintock and I have discussed what changes must be made, and I am absolutely convinced that Tom is the only candidate who can get the job done.
Please know that I am speaking as a private citizen and not for any organization. But I also speak with great hope in what California can become again, if we do not settle for less that the best.
On October 7th, vote yes on the recall, and then vote for Tom McClintock...the only candidate who will restore common sense in Sacramento.
