The California GOP will announce today that it will endorse Arnold Schwarzenegger for their candidate for the governor of California.

The official announcement will come at 2pm Pacific time today.

This announcement comes as a big blow to Tom McClintock.

Bill Simon, whose political experience is limited to one losing election, looked at the polls, realized he hadn't held on to his voters from last fall, realized it was going to be a difficult to impossible job to get them back in six to eight weeks, even with his independent wealth, and pulled out of the race. Tom, a twenty to thirty year political veteran, looked at the same polls, showing that he didn't hold on to his voters from last fall, had an even more difficult (let's face it, impossible) job to get them all back due to his more limited finances...and chose to keep running until he hits bottom. Who looks more like the amateur?

Well I love " W" and support him on 90% of the issues, but after this election in California, I am not sure. We have Peter Fitzgerald in the Senate. He is neither Feinswine nor is he Boxer. My Congressman is Don Manzullo. My county (Winnebago) is a large one in Illinois. There is one Democrat state representative who narrowly defeated a Mexican social conservative Republican woman. Every other state representative is a social conservative Republican and so is every State Senator.

Ordinari;y, Illinois has had Republican governors with the good taste to be well to Arnie's right, if not perfect. Lyin' RINO George Ryan ended a 26-year GOP dominance of state offices here. He ran pro-life, pro-family, pro-law enforcement, anti-tax and anti-spend against a genuinely conservative Democrat (then Congressman Glenn Poshard). Lyin' George won by 4% on the usual lame party arguments. He then proceeded to commute every death penalty to life other than a handful pardoned because of DNA proof of innocence (as to which no complaint) but among those preserved for potential pardon was a charming couple who cut a pregnant woman to death to remove her late-term baby to kidnap it to apply for welfare. Lyin' George also went fully pro-abort, signed funding legislation (a first for Illinois), signed a faggot's rights bill, kept gun controls, raised taxes and spending payoffs to leftists.

The Republican Attorney General,James Ryan (no relation as we were constantly reminded during his inept but losing gubernatorial campaign) though pro-life, gave $300,000 in discretionary lawsuit proceeds to Jesse Jackson for a job retraining program for women and also refused to attempt the indictment of Lyin' George Ryan for selling Tractor-Trailer drivers' licenses for $300 per pop. (They will be driving on roads near your family too). We hold out hope that the US Attorney will do the indicting and send Lyin' George Ryan to die in federal prison where he belongs. Many of his aides have already been convicted in the scheme and he is always named as an unindicted co-conspirator. Courtesy of Lyin' George Ryan, we lost the State Senate for the first time in memory as most GOP candidates apologized for being alive and lost state constitutional offices and lost seats in the state house. These are the wages of public policy cowardice. We retain Judy Bahr Topinka as State Treasurer. The sooner she is defeated the better.

I was not attempting to change minds just testifying to the truth.

First of all, what exactly is a "genuine conservative"?

Second, where in the mind of some people here, does this leave folks like me, who might not really be focus on/care much about a number of social issues?

I'm pro-life (I make excpetions for rape and when the life of the mother is at stake) because I feel that the only time I'm justified in taking a life is when someone poses a threat to mine. The rape issue is one where there are good arguments on both sides, and I don't think I can speak for a woman in that position.

I don't buy the Michelle Malkin line on immigration - and in fact, I have come to oppose it pretty strongly. I have had some serious concerns and doubts about efforts to legislate morality, mostly from the left, but some on the right.

I don't go along with a lot of the entertainment-bashing. I happen to like listening to gangster rap, Howard Stern, and watching South Park, but I don't limit myself to that - I have a big variety of likes in the entertainment arena (my musical taste goes from some classical music to the aforementioned gangster rap; I'll read just about any book on World War II, naval history, by Tom Clancy; I like a host of movies and would consider myself a History Channel addict).

I am NOT the type of person who favors the political equivalent of a banzai charge - I prefer to instead take what I can and go for the rest later, and I will always support the most viable conservative where I run, barring actions like those of John Warner in the 1994 Senate race (which PERMANENTLY cost Mr. Warner my vote).

If I lived in California, I would vote YES on the recall and for Schwarzenegger on the grounds that the reason this recall started, and gained ground was because Gray Davis lied about California's financial condition to win re-election, and then tried to make up the deficit by illegally raising the car tax there. No social issues were involved in that, and to press them at this time is not what I consider a practical course of action.

Ultimately, I want low tax rates (a flat tax and the elimination of the corporate income tax). I want government to butt out of most of the things that some folks have had it get involved in. I think serious reforms (at a minimum) are needed in other areas. I'm with the neo-conservatives with regards to the war on terror and when it comes to foreign policy in general.

If I am not a "genuine conservative", then what am I? Is my support even desired on issues where there is common ground? I'd like to know if there is still a place for me as a conservative, or if I'm just some RINO who needs to be purged.

An honest answer would be appreciated, because, quite frankly, I want to know where I stand with people.
