Mayor Alan Autry will try to suspend the city's Human Relations Commission after its chairwoman issued a news release labeling a local conservative organization a "hate group." Autry vowed Saturday to take action against the commission in the latest clash between the group and more conservative members of the Fresno city government.

Who says it's illegal? But then don't complain if someone slaps the 'hate' label on you.

Uh... ever heard of "hate crime legislation"? Ever heard of campus speech codes criminalizing "hate speech"? Hatred is being criminialized left and right, in case you hadn't noticed. And once it's officially "illegal" to hate, all someone has to do is "slap the hate label on you" and you are cooked.

I'm not surprised that a second commissioner was needed to help write the slander of FR.

Reality is only what the commissars say it is....

When did it become illegal to experience the emotion of hatred?

These are your exact words. The 'emotion of hatred' is not a crime.

My guess is that Bret liked the "Nightlife" a little too much here in Atlanta.

Funny that he goes where there ain't nothing to do but drink beer and grows up.

a "Hate Picnic", can I still bring my Gram's famous jello mold?

No, Gram's famous jello mold is made with love. You are missing the point. For next years picnic, bring hateful food, like Lima Beans to contribute methane and promote global warming--or Condor Omelettes. That would really set off the left, who pass legislation making it a crime to "kill" an egg of an endangered species, but perfectly legal to kill a baby at term...

Also appropriate...hateful art, like a miniature of the UN soaking in a jar of urine...but only if you can obtain government funds to pay for it.

Brett did grow up--and he and his wife had another baby. But down deep, he's still a little kid, pretty much unaffected by his fame and his wealth. And it's been a delight watching him play.

Shoot... then I can't bring the kids bikes, either. I don't know if I can afford them their own SUV's ;-)

It's well on its way to being criminalized, in case you hadn't noticed. Even writing an e-mail letting someone know you feel that way about them is being classified as a "hate crime" in the case of, for instance, CAIR. CAIR reported "massive wave of hate crime" against Muslims after 9/11. When pressed, turns out most of the "hate crimes" were negative e-mails. While no one has been prosecuted for that yet, as far as I know, if they are calling it a hate crime and no one is arguing with them, it's only a matter of time.

Or think of the "hate crimes" of spray painting hateful messages on public property, dorm room doors, that sort of thing. If you spray paint "Kilroy was here" you are guilty of vandalism. If you spray paint "Muslims go home" you are guilty of a hate crime. Yet the only difference is in the emotion expressed.

About a dozen people met at Shaw and Blackstone avenues Friday. They listened to country music, waved American flags and held signs asking drivers to honk their horns if they support U.S. soldiers.

Hmm. Yes, this sounds like a hate group to me.

I guess to these out-of-control, can't-ever-take-any-legitimate-critcism liberal douche bags think that waiving a flag is hate.
I suppose these morons think supporting the troops is hate.

Wait a second...I am noticing a pattern here. Hmm...it appears that the only hate in this situation is the loathe that these people have for America and the people that support it.

And it's been a delight watching him play.

Yep....as good as I've seen (and I've seen a lot...starting with Johnny U. / Bart Starr / Y.O. Tittle on)

Watching Bret now is a lot like watching Greg Maddox.
Never going to be as good as they were...
and wondering when to drop the hammer.

DeGraff, a member of Peace Fresno, said he read messages on the Web site that stated Free Republic members were armed and "extremely violent."

After listening to DeGraff, the HRC decided to write a letter to police, Catalano said. And Reyes later decided to send the news release, warning of the "hate group."

Hmm...interesting. The HRC listens to 1 person and judiciously decides to smear and libel over 100,000 FR members.

Yep. The liberal mind at work --because 1 person says "Oh, look at those mean people. They disagree with me. They must hate me. Make them go away, so I can go back to my unrealistic happy place."

Y. A. Tittle....not Y.O.

If the "O" and the "A" weren't so far from each other on the keyboard, I could claim a typo rather than CRS disease.

From an article on "how to recognize the bigot in an argument":

Projecting Your Own Base Motives To Others While we have focused on the tactic of the Left in demeaning and mislabeling opposition as primarily a technique in a war of propaganda, and addressed very briefly where such tactics may ultimately end; there is another aspect that should deserve some attention. There is a widely recognized phenomenon in human psychology, where a subject attributes his or her own vices or aberrations to others: "Projects" problem causing traits, that one does not want to acknowledge in himself, to those he has to deal with. There is unquestionably an element of this among the truly fanatic adherents to those Leftwing groups that claim to be tracking "hatred," "bigotry" and "intolerance." The adjectives, they apply to others, apply far better to themselves.

--- I always think of that when they shriek about the "evil gun nuts" who are, in their minds, ever poised upon the brink of some insane killing spree. Back in 2000, the allegations that the Republicans were "stealing the election" also spring to mind. The unintentional irony is thick enough to cut with a chainsaw...:)) Which reminds me...did you see the movie "Gangs of New York"? I'm shocked that Hollywierd let the scenes of rampant Dem election theft/tampering escape the cutting-room floor.

I stand by my assertion that your assertion is inaccurate. Anyone, like CAIR, can call something a hate-crime. That doesn't make it so. And 'might be' doesn't count.

People stand on the sidewalk in front of some buildings with signs that red "God Hates Fags" but that doesn't mean the sidewalk is an anti gay hate group.

People post all sorts of things on this site but the site is neither pro-gay or anti-gay.

Maybe not but that is how the press will report it and if the others on the sidewalk don't want to be portrayed that way, they should take care of the problem before it becomes a problem.

No matter what you think, the group really targeted are the Fresno freepers who stand on the corner supporting our troops! We are the ones they put on the news, and none of us is guilty of any of this!!!!!! We are furious and with good reason.
