Seems Bush got neo-conned into world military domination. After our success in Afghan, our 'power' performance in Iraq has not been rewarded. Peace is now more remote than ever, either in the Arab world, Israel-Palestine, or the Orient.

Time to declare victory, come home to fortress America, forget world military domination, turn rehab over to the UN, and let Israel loose to do whatever, and let the world solve their own ageless problems.

Once the American people find out how much it's going to cost over there in Iraq, I seriously doubt that they'll be eager to enter into another military adventure anytime soon.

Robert Kuttner is top honcho at the mad-dog-leftist The American Prospect.

It is most instructive to see a self-styled conservative like you making common cause with the loony left.

Perhaps the paleo-cons really aren't quite so conservative after all.

Yep, it was a big neo-con job. When the war started I didn’t believe it, I had read about it but thought it was an exaggeration by the antiwar whackos. Even as recently as two weeks ago I didn’t buy it, but now it is starting to be the only answer that makes sense.

Not everything in the article is true, but the fact that the neo-cons control(ed) policy looks like it may be the case. IMO they thought Iran would be just like Kuwait, and if it had been everything would be fine still and questions about the reasons for war wouldn’t be asked today. But it wasn’t, and now it is time to reflect.

The neo-cons also contended that "the road to Jerusalem goes through Baghdad." In other words, get rid of Saddam and the Mideast balance of power would shift; Israel's enemies would be softened up for a peace settlement on Israel's terms.

Neo-cons see Damascus and Teheran as the next stops on their "road map". But they underestimate the human and financial resources needed for such trip.

Let's look at this whole situation in about 6 more months. The Neo-Cons may have this one pegged. I'll withhold judgement until I get a look at the Iraqi Constitution after the Iraqi people ratify it.

Then we can decide on whether to hang Rummy or build him a monument.

OMG, the Americans are actually shooting back! The horror of it all! Jimmy Carter, Tom Daschele and all the 'real conservatives' spamming FR are deeply saddened!

Seems Bush got neo-conned into world military domination.

Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rice....apparently all so stupid and/or gullible, that they were hypnotized by the dreaded "neo-cons" aka Jewish Republicans. Correct?

Time to declare victory, come home to fortress America, forget world military domination, turn rehab over to the UN, and let Israel loose to do whatever, and let the world solve their own ageless problems.

It's all about the jooos, eh? Time to crawl home, appease terrorists, and consign America to becoming a second-rate power. Let the French and Germans rule the world. They've always been so good at it.

Feinstein wants US troops in Israel acting as a buffer between the Palestinians and the Israeli's. Placing US troops in the middle of that conflict should be the very definition of a 'quagmire'. Placing US troops in Afghanistan and Iraq has been extremelly productive.

Afghanistan:

Taliban gone.
Numerous terrorists in Afghan captured/killed.
Connections between Osama and 911 found in Afghanistan.
Entire nation of people freed.

Iraq:

Batthist gone.
Saddams military gone.
Numerous Iraqi terrorists captured/killed.
WMD evidence forthcoming.
Entire Nation of people freed.

Dont know how anyone can claim that Bush et. al. foriegn policy is a failure. It has been much better then having US peace forces in Israel and much better then suffering significant terrorists attacks on our home soil.

Is it just me, or is the term "Neo-Con" being used by the Socialist Progessive Democrat Party to link conservatives to another more sinister word that starts with an N.

Perhaps we should call them "Neo-Socialist Progressive Extreme Left-Wing Democrat Liberals"

If NeoCons have hijacked foreign policy...why are we demanding a terrorist state inside Israel, and why are we going to disgracefully abstain on the Security Council vote regarding Arafat? I am so sick of this self-hating Jew Kuttner.

Its funny if it weren't such garbage. I think Robert Kuttner forgot to mention Israel. The neo-cons have far from taken over our entire foreign policy. They have influence to be sure but there's no organized cabal running the Bush Administration's foreign policy. Kuttner's talk of a foreign policy hijacking is just a figment of his overactive imagination and its striking how liberals and paleo-cons see something that isn't there.

Increasingly, Iraq looks like Bush's Vietnam

After 6 months??? This punk ass has the gall to say that after 12 years of the JFK-LBJ Vietnam adventure? And you neo-haters buy this crap? We lose 50 guys in 4 months and lets all panic? Damn...we lost 3,000 people in 90 minutes on Sept. 11th. At this point in WWII we were getting our asses kicked in the pacific against a single enemy. And now Bush has to win the War on Terror in 2 years against a worldwide religious-based enemy??? You people need to get a grip before you buy this nonsense. Robert Kuttner is a class A scumbag. As are the losers he quotes in this utterly absurd article. James Rubin (Mr. Amanpour...yeah he's unbiased)? Certifiable DAVID OBEY??? He might as well quote Cynthia McKinney.

It made sense to take out Hussein, and it makes sense to remove regimes in Iran, Syria, "Palestine" and yes even Saudi Arabia. Anything that weakens the Muslim world and its terror base makes Americans safer.

And as for Rummy, how can you possibly compare his errors in underestimation with those of Eisenhower, who's blunders before the Bulge cost the lives of tens of thousands of men. And that was at the END of WWII, this is just the beginning. Rumsfeld is doing a damn good job...stand behind him, dammit! Or do you want Saudi ass-kissing Powell running the ship? Think long and hard before you make common cause with leftwing scum like Kuttner because of some vague paranoia about "Neo-Conservatives".

Boston Bob is as delusional as Baghdad Bob. Planes were hijacked. Americans were killed. The same MO was used many times on different scales during the previous administration and Clinton, the socio-con, diddled.
