I'll tell you why. Mathematics. A lot of Arnold's supporters are middle of the road. If he drops out, at least 33% of his voters will go to Bustamante. Bustamante will thus win. It's that simple. If you vote for McClintock, you are helping Cruz.

And what we see on the board convinces me that Republicans will go down arguing among themselves over which of their candidates is or isn't conservative enough.
And as a result they will once again help elect another Democrat.

If you had head-to-head, Bustamante vs. McClintock in a special election, and furthermore, a recall election of a Democrat. McClintock wins by 10% or more. You have to look at turnout by party and at voter motivation. Republicans will turnout at a much higher level than Democrats in this election.
