Scarey thought to think anyone named Iqbal Husain has such intricate and insider knowledge of our electrical grid system.

Just to play devil's advocate... There are over 6 million Muslims in the nation, a great majority were born and raised here... A great majority from non-Arab countries... Would you propose we not allow anyone with a Mus name in on any of these "secrets"? How would you possibly safeguard against it? How would you justify this to a 5th generation American whose name happens to by of Islamic origin?

I love FR, but there are so many racists here, it's unbelievable. You don't limit your hate to the Arabs who perpetrated the 911 and other heinous crimes, you're trying to pin collective blame on every Muslim in the world, including many who are good, solid, contributing citizens of our good old USA.

So much for freedom of religion, etc. Remember the Constitution? Surely, had you been around during WWII, you would have supported the forced internment of all Japanese, right?

How long until people realize that having your own grid is a good thing...i.e. Oregononians paying for Cali's messed up system.

An anomaly at a car manufacturing plant caused a cascade that brought down 10 percent of the NE grid, according to Iqbal Husain. OK

Can we await some kind of confirmation? This sounds like just another theory to add to the string.

So don't loose her in Solon.

How long before Bush is linked to Texas being on their own grid?

Hitlery blaming Bush on this is absolutely disgusting. As a matter of fact, ANYTHING this a$$ does is absolutely disgusting. An opportunistic lying, deceiving, conniving bi+ch!

If GM is producing Crown Victorias, I'd say we got a bigger problem than an "anomoly".

That should be a positive for him. He was governor of a state smart enough to be self-reliant.

No, what's really scary is our professed insiders and overseers seemingly lack intricate knowledge of our electrical grid system. I saw them admit as much on tv...

Isn't there a scientific theory that says a device or mechanism of sufficient complexity will begin to develop unexplainable quirks akin to a 'personality?'

How can you, without taking away their amendment rights? I agree wholeheartedly about screening at airports and such, that we should perform targeted screening, but I definitely would draw the line here.

Exactly. Once again, incompetence gets us in trouble.

Spaceweather.com is reporting this...

Readers have asked if solar activity could be responsible for the widespread blackout in the eastern US and Canada. Not likely. There were no strong solar flares or geomagnetic activity yesterday to trigger the outage.

But, they follow-up with this update...

Two days ago sunspot 431 was small and unremarkable. Now it's larger than the planet Jupiter, and poses a threat for powerful X-class solar flares. The spot is easy to see, but never stare at the sun. Always use safe solar observing techniques.

Scientists classify solar flares according to their x-ray brightness in the wavelength range 1 to 8 Angstroms. There are 3 categories: X-class flares are big; they are major events that can trigger planet-wide radio blackouts and long-lasting radiation storms. From SpaceWeather.com

Latest I heard from ABC news was that there was an undervoltage in MI, followed seconds later by the undervoltage at the Cleveland GM plant. The cascade lasted nine seconds until operators at a Pennsylvania facility intervened. The report was that had they not stopped decoupled PA from the grid the cascade would have run south to Florida and west to the Rockies.

"If GM is producing Crown Victorias, I'd say we got a bigger problem than an 'anomoly'."

Well, it was after the power failure that Crown Vics suddenly began rolling off the GM assembly line.

Do you think that is any different than saying everything bad is Clinton's fault? I get tired of hearing it from both sides.

I'm not in a good mood. No patience with stupid people today.
