Name recognition will be all the more important in an election where the spoils go to whoever gets a plurality, on a ballot packed with every Tom, Dick & Harry in California who could come up with $3500.

Organization can trump name ID in an election of this sort.
This is a prime opportunity for the conservative movement to flex its organizational muscle.
But McClintock is the only one who can do it now.
This has all happened because of Davis' incompetence on the budget. There is only one guy in this race who has actually been in the arena doing something about it--and it ain't Schwarzennegger.

If that were true, then Gallagher (the Sledge-O-Matic) comic should be making vast numbers in the polls. Same with Larry Flynt.
Name recognition doesn't mean squat. Just look at Walter Mondale.
