Didn't you and I talk a LONG time ago about the French and what they were or were not sharing with the United States in the lead up to the war? I am positive I saw some sort of story on TV about the French withholding information because it may lead to people finding out just how much Islamic activity is being tolerated in France.

I hope somebody connects ALL these dots.

Yes, and some of us thought that might be why France was working so hard to keep us out of Iraq--the fear that we might find out just how much WMD technology they shared/sold to Iraq.

I think there were articles on the topic posted here, but I can't think of any titles off-hand, and I might not have time to do a decent search until Thursday. I have a few minutes here and there is all.

Hersch claims the CIA briefed Congress on Niger and then adds:

(When the C.I.A. spokesman William Harlow was asked for comment, he denied that Tenet had briefed the senators on Niger.)

Note that in Tenet's statement from last Friday he verifies this by saying:

In the fall of 2002, my deputy and I briefed hundreds of members of Congress on Iraq. We did not brief the uranium acquisition story.

I would think that since Tenet is on the record that any congressman who wishes to dispute this can step forward and do so. They have not.

Hey, cyn, thanks for the reference. Those were scary days. My first reference to Baradei's testimony is a little before -- at 470. There he talked about the aluminium tubes and the magnets.

Anyone think anyone can get reliable intelligence out of Africa? A pattern is more important than a single document. The pattern is -- Iraq was being itself and it was also being used geo-politically to wield against us, as advantages and circumstances allowed.

Niger had the uranium, just like the cupboard has the cheese. The mice come to the cupboard.

Notice also the country of Gabon. It supposedly quit exporting uranium in 1999. But did it, really?

The talkative Ambassador Williams was ambassador to Gabon during the time they were still producing and exporting the stuff, just for the record.

I wish I could be as confident as you. We have a fine President and he cannot be expected to check and recheck every detail. He has to rely on those around him. I am real happy Saddam is gone. But I wonder at the planning for the war and now the planning after. He deserves the best not to be undermined like this by the media and even aol.

Well...he did say yesterday that the inspectors should have been allowed to stay and do their job. My memory says that they had to leave because we were about to go in and liberate. And our troops did an OUTSTANDING job too. This peace keeping and nation building is not the right thing for combat troops.
